What can I use a room at my venue for

lauram1, 7 September, 2010 at 21:08 Posted on Planning 0 20

I have exclusive use of my wedding venue and there is a room where nothing will be going on.

It's quite small so can't put lots in there.

Any ideas on what we could use it for, wedding is in November. Thought of a casino etc but didn't really want to spend that much.

Ideas would be greatly appreciated x

    A photobooth!!!

Hang a large sheet/curtain along one wall, have a box of dress up gear and a place for the nominated photographer to stand!

Can you put a Wii or Playstation in there to keep the kids entertained?

I have quite a large room spare in my venue, can fit 75 people seated. I think I'm going to have it as place for all the kids to go (There will be approx 25 there) with a selection of activities.

Perfect for a kid's room if you have kids coming. You could set it up like this with activities and perhaps an entertainer:

I'd be careful of having too much going on in there. We have a huge room spare and I suggested a Karoke but my Dad pointed out people will leave the main room to go into there.

We are using ours as a reception room where cakes / welcome drinks will be served before ushering guests to the main room. Then when we arrive me and OH are going to spend 15mins alone in there enjoying a drink and a bite to eat as our first few mins as husband and wife, then it will be used as a chill out room for older members of the family wanting a quiet area or Mom's trying to get babies to sleep - we will have some relaxing music playing to block out the music.

I am going to have very minimal decorations in there too. A wooden lettering of our married name and a "photo" buntin.

    Thanks for the suggestions.

It was more for the evening.

There are only a few children so don't really need to use it for them. There are 5 rooms in total plus the bar so we already have a room for food and a couple of chill out rooms so I was thinking something for the adulst but not too disctracting so that there will be no one in the main room!

How about just using it as a chill out room for the older guests who don't want to be in with the music?

A photo booth or video message booth wouldn't take people away from the main room for too long and would still be fun and create great memories x

Hi Laura, All your guests will be in the main room. I would go with Sherrie H's idea. The Oldies love a space to sit quiet with a nice cup of tea and relax and chat. The oldies quite often get forgotten in the pace of weddings. Let us know what you decide in the end :-) Primrose x

I love the video messages idea! Just need someone with a basic video camera. Can imagine how the messages will go as people have more to drink.

Another random idea is to have it as a mans room - a casino table, somewhere to have a brandy? Thats my OHs kind of thing.

We are having one of these thanks to my lovely dad-and putting in a room with the guest book- there will be a blackboard sign pointing to the room so its not forgotten about, but then peope wont end up going in there and not coming out to the main room!!

Yes. We like to capture these sooner rather than later in the day, as the flow of alcohol can create some wildly varying sentiments to the couple.

That said, some people might need a few drinks to pluck up the confidence to talk to the video camera.

After Reception speeches/meal is our preferred time to film the Video Guestbook.

If you've already got a main room, a chill out room the bar and your having to think about what to put in there... why not just shut the door and not use it? You wont have to spend out on photobooths, decorations, casino bits etc

We are in the same position as you but have requested that the venue close the games room with x-box etc.. as we have a whole house to ourselves with only approx 90 guests. Apart from the lounge, main evening reception room, smoking area and buffet room I would like everyone in close proximity so as not lose the atmosphere and end up with lots of half empty rooms.

I think what I am trying to say is you may not have to use every room but it depends on how many guests you have.

We have hired out an extra small room at our venue, but we are using it for us... as a place to dump the bits and pieces we don't need at the reception, leave our suitcases and bags etc, a place for the tog (and possibly DJ if he wants feeding too) to have their dinner which we are providing, a space for the caterers if they need it, that kind of thing.

I would go for with either a bridal party room or quiet room for older guests.

If you go for the quiet room option, you could switch the guest book into there for when it is too dark/drunken in main room!
