What car are you having?

Bridget Gump, 9 February, 2009 at 19:45 Posted on Planning 0 23

I'm looking at transport for me and my dad to the church and then me and H2B from the church to the reception. I'd rather go for modern and/or quirky rather than an old RR, but am stuggling to think of anything original.

Any ideas other than Bentleys and Mercs? Happy to spend up to £500, but only if it's special otherwise only really willing to spend £250-300 for a glorified taxi!

It needs to be reliable and not too slow as mum and dad's is 45 minutes away from church.

I went in a RR Phantom which was gorgeous and H went in a Lamborghini. We both went in the Phantom from the church to the reception. I think the company we used was www.phantomcarhire.co.uk HTH

That and Del Boys van are the only quirky ideas I have come up with so far, must admit I'm not so keen on the London cab idea, not sure why though.

I've asked about DB's van, but think it might be a bit small for my dress (when I find a dress that is!!)

Same here, I am hiring a london cab (from a family friend) for £175 for 2 hrs, midnight blue, with an ivory ribbon - went this way in the end alleycat, as really wanted a ribbon on front and defo no advertising. Good to hear you have got them for free!

My dad is driving me in his car, which looks very similar to this:

have you looked at karmakabs.com? i would have *loved* one of these!!!

ETA - the above is a renault gordini. when raymond blanc moved to the uk he drove over in one - the only reason i know this is cos it was in his autobiography, which was publicised on richard & judy, and my dad was asked to bring his car to the studio to show raymond blanc!

We're having a 1964 silver jaguar, so not really much help to you! You say maybe modern/quirky - what do you think of something like a beetle? (I mean new style as opposedto old, although I personally prefer the old ones!)

Perhaps you could find acompany that does cool cars from TV shows and stuff like that? You could go in Scooby's Mystery Machine, or Kit from Knight Rider! Haha! That'd be pretty cool I think!

Alternatively, I've seen people use double decker buses, fire engines and even tractors beforeJust depends on exactly how different you want to be i guess!

The problem is neither of us are big car fans really so it would be weird having something like a Beetle if neither of us like them. It's difficult because there's not a dream car for us as such, quirky or traditional.

I'm trying to persuade my dad to drive me there in my god father's Aston Martin, but mainly because it is cool (so I'm told!) and also free, but dad wants to be chauffeured there.

Oooh, good shout re cars from films. H2B is a big film fan. Hmm, I guess I'd struggle with a star wars car due to the whole space thing! Will have a think about what films have cars that he likes.

The best thing to do is to find companies in your area that supply cars and then maybe have a look at what they have available for inspiration. You might find something that jumps out at you. Where are you?

I wasn't too keen on going for the "traditional wedding car" (something like this) but I just wasn't willing to pay the prices people wanted for something quirky. I went for this in the end as I felt it was a bit more mordern (well, only just!)

Also I thought it was a really nice looking car!

Assuming that my Dad can get it working, I'm driving my Morris Minor. And Iain will be turning up in his Capri!

As to quirky and modern: What about something like this?

American 50s convertibles are a bit different. This one's a ford skyliner.

This is a classic English Sports car - called and Austin Healy Sprite.

This is a Cadillac Coupe de Ville.

One of my favourites: Citroen DS. Beautiful car. (convertibles are rare as hen's teeth though!)

Audi R8 - stunning car, and would get you to the church on time!

Lambroghini Gallardo. Hubba hubba. Love those.

    Ferrari Testarossa. Relive Miami Vice!

AC Cobra. Again, a classic. Although not really practical as the side exhausts get hot and would probably burn your dress!

Or how about a nice mini?

Ok, that's me finished with top gear mode!

Hope that's been of some help, and if not, it's been fun looking at cars!

    Ali x

Sounds good! Definitely a lot cheaper than the £300 odd I've seen some people paying!! I love the sound of the colour as well, we've just got boring black I think.

Can you tell that I love a bargain?!

I'm not having a car as I'm getting ready at the venue and we're staying there as well (so basically I'll be going in a silver Ford Ka!) but my friend had a black and pink themed wedding last summer and they had a pink cadillac, which looked amazing.

I think there were as many photos taken of the car as there was of the bride and groom!
