what cars can be used instead of the traditional cars?

bride2b83, 26 October, 2010 at 13:15 Posted on Planning 0 15

I'm looking for wedding cars for our wedding next june.

the traditional cars are so dear so so i'm trying to find other cars that would be suitable for a traditional wedding but at a cheaper cost.

i haven't a clue about cars so dont know where to begin.

thanks

I am looking at an old white taxi cab...

Prices so far have come in between £275 and £375 for 2-3 hours hire.

If you are looking for a cheap mode of transport, try your local taxi firm, sometimes they have smart looking cars (mercs etc.) that they will hire out for you?

There are lots of alternatives (ill list a few but not sure on costs)

(little less traditional) Family members smart car... BMW etc... Or going to a general car hire company and appoint someone to drive.

Limos - there are lots of choice with a large range in price, again not as traditional but cheaper i think

Find a classic car club and see if one of them will drive you - cash in hand maybe. There are lots of clubs around.

Just look to get 1 car and use an alternative for the bridesmaids (family car)

VW camper vans are a regular at weddings. Red Buses are another(depends where you are in the UK)....I have shot one wedding where the taxi was pink, http://www.cabalicious.co.uk/ yet the coolest mode of transport was the bride arriving at church driven by a hells angel on a trike(Stevenage)

We've been joking about using a red bus, after spotting one floating around town (town being Geneva!)

An easy way to get the whole bridal party to the venue!

Im not hiring a car - one of my friends has a normal VW and shes driving me and my dad to the ceremony and her partner has a bigger car and hes taking my bridesmaids and mother.

Im not really bothered about the transport - needed to keep costs down too so thought it was the best way to do it.

The way I look at it is that actually as long as im at the church marrying my perfect fiancee thats all that matters NOT how I get there Smiley smile

Thats exactly what happened a few weeks ago on a wedding where the couple had two locations for their reception and had to get the guests around....it worked very well. Specifically, parking was bad at the church, and the two receptions so the bus was the easiest answer.

I'm having a red bus to take my guests to and from registry office to venue. I'm getting a taxi myself to arrive, £7.50 one way - haha! I'll take the bus on the return journey. Venue is only 6 miles from registry office so I'm not paying upto £200 just for me arriving around the corner; no one will see me anyway as it's a pedestrianised market square.

Hi. I recently set up a VW camper wedding car hire business - they seem to be pretty popular for weddings! For my wedding I had tractors and trailors and drove all the guests across a field to where we had the ceremony... other ideas include a horse and cart? Good luck with the planning!

I'm having one of these. £120 to pick me up wait around at the church until all photos are done and then drive us the long was to reception lol. All the old classic cars were way out of our budget

One of my customers had an open top bus (in the summertime!) and it worked out very reasonable to take all guests to and from various places:-

I think she got it from the local council where she got married.

Campervans are also popular but not sure how much they cost?

I really like the idea of white/cream soft top VW beetles. Would love to have one of these to take me and OH to our 'after-party' when we get home. He's not so keen though and has, so far, vetoed the idea. I'm still working on him though!?

These are not cheap to hire! Luckily we own the one we used for our wedding, and that was far from cheap too!!

I think a lot of people are missing the point slightly. I don't think the OP is looking for something different, but something cheaper than a regular wedding car. Unfortunately, when a company use any vehicle, regular or alternative for a wedding, they generally are expensive due to insurances, chauffer etc.

We had a S Class Merc to take me and my bridal party on the day + an E Class Merc for 3 days at the fraction that OH drove for a faction of the cost of a wedding.

    I had a taxi http://www.cityoflondonblacktaxis.co.uk/WEDDINGS.html

    - the benefit for that cost wise was that they would let us hire for an hour, so it was cheaper than the normal wedding cars. I paid £130 for an hour. The other option I didn't end up going for (cos I loved my cab and it was great for my dress) was Addison Lee who do Chauffer posh cars - but doesn't have the W word attached so will prob be cheaper!
