What date for a Dec wedding

Crondonbride1975, 9 November, 2012 at 08:30 Posted on Planning 0 9

Hi all

can you please give me some advice . We want a December 13 wedding to be on a Friday and ae worried about which date to go for. Here's our options ;

6 dec - figure this is furthest from Xmas so maybe the best / but will it be too busy with people preparing for Xmas and kids at school etc

27 dec - after the Xmas madness has calmed down so maybe better for people / kids off school / people off work due to holiday. But is it too near the holidays ie will people be put of coming because have plans with their famfamily we just want the best chance of everyone being able to make it

    The 6th may find some dropping out due to Christmas parties but any time leading up to the 25th may be the case.

    The 27th, I guess people might want to just chill out, but then they may be bored and look for something to do. I don't think there's an ideal answer either way.

    Go for a 1-2pm ceremony though so you have some daylight for the reception as it's dark by 4pm, not just sun setting, but twilight.

    I'm getting married 28th dec this year which is the Friday in between christmas and new year and hardly anyone isnt coming because of the time of year. My OH stag do is the first weekend in December and he has had a couple of people say they cant afford that in the run up to christmas but will be at the wedding so I personally think the end of December is better. Either date you choose I would suggest letting people know well in advance so that they can sort hotels / travel etc at good prices as well as getting any holidays needed.

    If it was me I'd personally go for the 27th as I'd be worried about people not being allowed the 6th off work as lots of companies don't allow days off in December.

    It depends where your guests live, where they're likely to be over xmas, how they travel etc. Trains don't run on boxing day so people who don't drive might not be able to get there. If guests are likely to be away visiting family, for xmas, 27th is very early to expect people to get to your wedding.

    Unless you're looking at an evening wedding I suppose the biggest question is are you inviting children? If so, it needs to be when they're not in school. If not, it would be better not to haveit in the xmas holidays when people take time off to be with their children.

    A lot of companies work from 27th-31st December so that could be a problem with either date.

    I'm on the 28th this year too and have mostly had positive comments from people about it. Most of our guests are off work the week between Christmas and New Year so they didn't need to book any time off specifically for the wedding. One of the other reasons we chose it was because we have a lot of family who are away from home for work/uni but they are always back for Christmas holidays. Loads of people have said to me they are really looking forward to it because they usually just sit about the house doing nothing after Christmas.

    I'm getting married on the 7th December 2013, the Saturday, we wanted to get married in December but wern't sure which date to go for for similar reasons as yourself. However we ended up at the beginning of the month so we could go on our honeymoon and still be back for Christmas day and New years and also meant you still have Chritsmas to look forward to

    The 27th December is a really good date as long as you are really organised because you will need everything in place by 23rd December; if you need anything everything starts closing down on 24th. 25th and 26th will be closed, Royal Mail last delivery is 24th so remember this for anything being delivered!

    Just wanted to add the only thing that can be a pain with going between Christmas and New Year is finding a florist. A lot of the flower markets are shut that week so you might be limited in what you can get. Obviously this isn't a problem if you are having silk flowers but if you are a fresh flower enthusiast then it's worth looking into as early as possible.
