What desserts are you having?

lamby, 25 June, 2010 at 10:01 Posted on Planning 0 22

Please inspire me!

We are having beef and yorkshire at our august wedding breakfast - still not sure on starter but thinking a salad of some sort as soup might be a bit much with a roast if it's warm, but we are stuck on desserts!
The venues food is amazing with huge portions (which usually I'm all for) but their puds are a bit much for the wedding in those sizes - sticky toffee, apple pie - all gorgeous but I don't want to be a big bloated bride and want the guests to be able to get drunk and dance as we are eating quite late. So please tell all on your dessert front - the venue said they are happy to go off menu and we can sample things after we suggest (yum), but other than strawberries and cream or profiteroles we're a bit stuck! Wouldn't mind something ice cream based, like a sundae but don't know the name of any nice/fancy ones! Or something summery would be great - down the eaton mess road (except I don't like meringue) or a summer cheesecake (except OH doesn't like cheesecake) you see our trouble... We need to decide fast and have to give a couple of weeks notice for them to make up samples for us. Please help!

We're next July and we are pretty sure we're having salad to start, beef and turkey roast and then possibly a summer pudding, chocolate mousse cake cube or strawberry shortcake (we're trying five deserts at our tasting!). I think something light is best, and maybe a light mousse cake or a lemon tart or something like that? x

We gave our guests a choice on all courses and our two desserts were Eton Mess and White and dark chocolate semifredo. Both of which went down very well!!

We are having pavlova, which doesn't sound like it's good for you!

How about a mousse (lemon, passion fruit etc)? Or tiramisu?

I was going to Strawberries and Cream but I read your post so I can't now ? Why not a twist on this and serve mini strawberry pavlovas?

Well we are having Summer fruit pudding for our desert, (might be more autum fruit as wedding is Oct 1st) but we thought it was puddingy enough for pudding but not to heavy after main course of eiether beef caserol and dumplings or roast beef and Yorkshire.

    Other summery options

    Pavola and seasonal fruit.

Home made ice cream and sorbets in brandy snap baskets

or what about a fancy jelly and ice cream combination. Where you have grown up jelly (Like an elderflower type jelly with loads of fruit in it 9like a fruit terraine(Sp) and lovely posh ice cream.

if you fancy something creamy what about a fruit mouse or syllabub or pann a cotte (Sp)

How about a fruit tart or creme brule?

LuLu's sorbet idea sounds great - light and refreshing. We've been to a place where they serve orange or lemon sorbet inside a hollowed out orange or lemon, its lush!

We're having sticky toffee pudding but getting married in november so want something a bit warming.....I'd go for summer pudding, or a french style apple tart, its much lighter than apple pie and is delicious.

We're having chocolate mousse. We have put soup to start with on the menu's but have just changed my mind and pinched flutterbye's idea to have canapes as the starter, chicken or salmon as the main, chocolate mousse to finish.

Saw another thread on here that came up with the idea of having scones with jam and cream for dessert. A brilliant idea that I wish I'd though of myself but can't change the menu completely. Or what about a trio of icecream with frozen berries? After roast beef and york puds it would make be a nice light ending to a biggish meal.

Weve got a choice of Creme Brulee or Trio of chocolate mousse.

I would go for something moussey, but i also like the idea of a Strawberry Sundea type thing with ice cream and wafers and stuff, think that would go down well.

What about Panna Cotta with summer berry's, normally quite small and cold so ideal for summer?

Errggh computer went all weird on me then and wouldn't let me continue my ramble, humph!

Am feeling much more confident about a nice strawberry/fruity/summery dessert affair now, my taste buds are a tinglin'!

Also love the creams scones, that would be so cool and English after the beef and yorkshire!

Bethan - I never knew mousse could look like that, Loving It! x
