What did everyone book first?

*MM3*, 15 July, 2013 at 22:11 Posted on Planning 0 20

Sorry i'm a bit post happy tonight - last one honest Smiley smile
So i think no time is passing by and i'll log on and it seems to be going in too quickly for my liking lol.

I've only booked -
Local church,
Venue & caterers,
Cars.

So not much at all ? Its June next year so not too long..

Next on my list is -
TOG (currently still contacting),
Dj / band - haven't made up our mind yet
Buy dress
Cake
Golden eagle we're having for photos.

Is this a good order or is there others to prioritise first? Literally don't know where to start the only thing i know is togs get booked so quickly so want that next, I've probably forgot loads too but starting to feel a bit like i want to hurry or i'll be last minute ?

What order did everyone else start booking stuff?

Venue was the first thing, quickly followed by TOG, caterers (DJ was included with venue and cake is already sorted). I'm currently looking to sort out make up/hair and accommodation for us and immediate family at the moment although haven't really done anything for the last couple of months and sorting the honeymoon is our current priority!

List seems fine though you're right to book TOG pretty quickly I know a lot of them are getting booked up for next year very quickly. You haven't got flowers on your list but if you're having them you might want to include them soon too?

Don't worry, you still have plenty of time!

Completely forgot to mention florist, venue sent us a price list of the one they recommend we use, she offers a special package for their customers so will definitely book her soon.
Will have to start looking around for make up & hairdressers, some details i forget lol..need to get writing more lists i think Smiley smile
Yeah hoping i'll manage it all slowly but surely, panic as i feel over Christmas things will come to a halt lol, need to get a grip & relax i think Smiley smile

    Thank you!!

HI. You have just under a year and you have already done sooooo much, why are you worrying. Getting married in sept this year, We booked our church first.Last June. we guessed that the whole point of the entire thing is the marriage and no point getting a venue for reception without a church date booked. we then booked our evening venue, and dress. Most things have been done this year such as florist, cake, cars, musician. bridesmaids dresses. Groom has just bought suit, and we are planning hen and stag at the moment. You honestly have bags of time. Best to know what you want early and then just take your time getting it right.

Hi, thanks for the reply Smiley laugh I really didn't think we had that much done already, i think maybe as i see a lot of people getting married the same time as us who have booked so much and are paying some things off when we're just getting deposits down lol. Yeah will keep at my planning and calm down a bit lol, 10 months is a not bad amount of time i suppose..just sounds so soon lol Smiley smile Thanks again ?

    This.

Then soon after venue dresser & dj. Now taking a break because we aren't having florist, hair/makeup so I don't think there's anything urgent I need to pin down. Honeymoon planning is our current thing.

We booked the venue for ceremony and reception first, then the registrar. Once we had a set date everything else was easy to arrange.

First was transport, then TOG and then the catering/bar/linens (with help from O/H's brother - he's a chef and has actually catered for a wedding at our venue before).

I also have my BM dresses bought, bouquets done, flower girl wands done and save the dates done and my shoes bought.

My hair is being done by the MOH, she's doing all the BMS and MOTB's hair.

My makeup is being done by my other BM and she is doing everyone elses too.

The cake is being made by my SIL

Dress shopping for me commences this Saturday Smiley smile

I booked the church as without that it's not a wedding just an expensive party. Then we looked for reception venues which had our date free. Booked that, then booked a TOG. Sent save the dates. Booked the caterer. Bought my OH's ring as we were in the USA and it was £1000's cheaper than the UK price. I've just bought my dress and that's it. We might start looking for accomodation this weekend and maybe start looking for suits. I'm going bridesmaid dress shopping at the end of the summer. I'm going to keep an eye out for my shoes and underwear as I will need them for dress fittings but I have until October for that. Probably start on cars soon and I'll go and see the florist. They wanted me to have my dress and my BM dresses before we decide what we want.

We booked the venue and registrar back in october, within 2 weeks of getting engaged. Then we got distracted by Christmas and in Feb/March booked the following:

    Photographer
    Dress
    Rings
    Suits
    Flowers
    Cake

I have now also got my shoes and jewelry and 3 of my 4 bridesmaids dresses.

We've booked the ceremony venue, reception venue and photographer.

I've also sorted the cake (being made by a friend) and car (being driven by her husband).

Lots still to do, going wedding dress shopping in a couple of weeks

Phew, looks like I am planning things in the right order then.

First step venue & registrar, then photographer pretty sharpish after that. A decent photographer means SO MUCH to me.

We booked the venue (ceremony and reception is in the same place) and registrar last July, as well as having my rings made. Then there was a massive gap until November when I booked the car, phototographer and DJ. Florist and dress were sorted in Feb, and finally the cake was booked in March.

Love this ^.... we're having vultures for our photos ?.

Umm, I'm getting married next week.

Reception venue: 28 Feb (all dates 2013)

    Church: 28 Feb

    Ordered dress: 22nd Mar

    Booked mens' suits: 29 Mar

    Ordered BMs' dresses: 4 Apr

Gave notice of marriage: 19 Apr

    Booked hairdresser: 24 May

    Booked photographer: 24 May

    Booked florist: 1 Jul (!)

    Booked make-up: 11 Jul (!)

My mum has made the cake and we are friends with the band, so no probs there.

I really wouldn't recommend this as a timetable! We've only got away with most of it because we're marrying on a Thursday.

I havent booked much yet.. but it is a year and half away!

I booked my reception then the church - bit backwards I know but it is my Dads church (hes the minister) so i could book in when I wanted so that didnt matter to much!

I then bought my bridesmaid dresses - again a bit backwards but they were being discontinued and i loved them plus i double checked they could be altered!

Still planing though think its the photographer next though but I do seem to do things backwards!
