What do VikingPrincesses do when they need cheering up???

VikingPrincess, 13 August, 2011 at 23:04 Posted on Planning 0 42

...They flash, of course! ?

Seeing as we've got 18 weeks to go (4 months and a week), and everything seems to happen to us, all at once, I thought I'd cheer myself up today and below is the result!

Hope you all enjoy as much as I did:

Wow what a flash! Funnily enough, I was thinking about you this week when I went to the wholesalers and saw all the Christmas stock that's just arrived! Snowmen, Penguins, Santas everywhere! I never tire of looking at your photos - I'm almost as excited about your wedding as you are LOL!

Thank you, everyone! I feel so excited now that I have read so many people's comments saying they loved the idea of our decor; for me it also is like a bit of dress rehearsal for what they guests may be feeling as they see it all.

As some of you may know, we've had some family arguments and now OH's dad and stepmum are saying they're no longer coming to the wedding and we are still hoping they'll change their mind and come as they were going to play a big part in the day, with OH's stepmum being one of the witnesses and his Dad making a speech etc and we love them dearly but his dad is under the impression we have done something on purpose, wwhich we haven't but at the moment there's no telling him.

Then, my BMs had a bit of a paddy about their capes and muffs, for which I am paying (they agreed from day one that they'd pay for their own dresses), saying that for the length of time they's be wearing them they weren't worth it and that they'd rather I gave them the money towards their dresses rather than spending £140 on capes and muffs they are gonna wear for pics and down the aisle, as their dresses are amazing and need showing off. I felt hurt and as if they were saying "stuff your image of your own wedding and the theme you are trying to achieve". Everything's OK now and the capes have been ordered but it added to how upset we were about FIL2B, and my OH said "it looks like this day is starting to be less and less OUR day, as everyone keeps urging us to have it!"

OH still hasn't found a job and they have cut his JSA because I work more than 24 hrs a week so we're on the breadline (if that's the correct expression?) because we couldn't cancel the wedding either as we'd have lost all the deposits and would have never afforded again to gather together all that money.

Additionally, I am very tired with work, as our project is due to go live mid-september, and I am working flaxible hours as in "on call" at all times; on top of that, when the project ends I may need to apply for another role in the comapny as once the project finishes, we will be made "displaced" (i.e. either redeployed or given voluntary redundancy) so i am updating my CV, profile etc, on top of september being the 3 months mark for the wedding and the TOG wants a meeting plus 50% of the cost, same the VOG. We are also going to the venue for the tasting.

I just feel on overload at the moment. Cherry on the cake? Lots of hospital appointments too, for my diabetes and post-op for my shoulder... I just wanna go hide somewhere and hibernate! LOL

So now you see, that's why I needed to cheer myself up!

Thank you all for your lovely comments. Just so you have an idea of the musical background, I am walking down the aisle to Celtic Woman's version of Enya's "MAY IT BE" from Lord of the Rings, and we have Canon in D, Enya - "Amind the Falling Snow" and also Enya's "White is in the Winter Night" for signing the register, followed by a complete, out-of-character recessional: Alan Jackson's "Livin' on Love" - so appropriate for us, especially the lyrics.

Hi Jenna - they're all from Etsy. I put everything together but the bits and bobs are from Etsy - the pen holder (done as a customised order with our initials), the pen comes from another Etsy supplier, the log holders for table names also from Etsy (our will have dark green wire instead of the silver in the pics), and the wood slices for the Centrepieces may come from there too if our venue doesn't manage to get me them - our wedding coordinator kindly said she'll speak to the estate manager to see if when they cut various trees on the huge estate they could slice me 7 big slices...

I can't believe it either - I saw it lying on the ground in next door neighbour's garden as they'd just had the tree cut down (a palm which died during last hard winter) and the bulb literally shone above my head that very second: Table Plan holder!!! I sanded down the exposed areas when it's been cut and treated it with Oak-coloured Cupriniol and...voila!!!

It's funny - last night when I saw all that together myself I got giddy again and now indeed, I can't wait to see it all come together!

I did another slide today to add to the folder with the above - the Car, our lovely Lady Penelope, a a gorgeous Tudor White Jaguar XJ6 Series III, with magnolia leather interior and the legendary 4.2 litre engine, from Lady Penelope Cars in Bradford:

Hi MrsDWT, they are style 872 from Alexia Designs, Alexia Couture to be more precise, see link below as they do it in loads of colours (I am even getting one myself as an evening dress in ivory panel and the rest in sage - when you look at it online just note that the colours look quite light compared to what they look like in real life. For example, the sample my girls tried in store was in misty blue and ivory but the misty blue looked more like sage in real life and a lot darker than on the website.

    Good luck!

Two young people without a thing
Say some vows and spread their wings
Settle down with just what they need
    Livin on love

She dont care 'bout whats in style
She just likes the way he smiles
It takes more than marble and tile
    Livin on love

Livin on love, buyin on time
Without somebody nothing aint worth a dime
Just like an old fashioned story book rhyme
    Livin on love

It sounds simple thats what you're thinkin'
But love can walk through fire without blinkin'
It doesnt take much when you get enough
    Livin' on love

Love that song! good choice! - I had 18 weeks to go last Thursday xx

We're getting there slowly but surely! Family Politics are becoming a pit of a pain, but i don't actually care too much at the end of the day. They will only ruin the day for themselves if they keep their attitudes!

We've pretty much got everything booked (booked my fireworks last week and i'm SO excited about them!)

Just need to get favours sorted
finish off the invites (and send them)
    buy Thank you gifts
speak to OH's uncle about music,
    bus needs booked,
meet with registrar (think that's happening in October)
Flower Girl outfits are needing bought
    Boys Kilts are needing sorted

These are the things i can think of off the top of my head that i've still got to get done. How about you?

Ah, family politics! I know only too well the heartache of that, as my OH's dad and stepmum, who were key to our day being how we wanted it, now are no longer coming to the wedding because of a misunderstanding and miscommunication and his Dad got into his head somehow that we made it political, and snubbed his family (that's because he didn't realise we HAD invited members of his family too) etc etc and because his mother (my OH's Nan) is not invited (my OH doesn't get on with her at all and not seen her in about 10 years), his dad is now not coming as we are making him "look bad" in front of his mother and rest of the family because it would look as if he is condoning the "don't tell nan about the wedding" and "don't invite nan" thing... It's broken our hearts and it's the first time I saw my OH crying since I met him. He really wants his dad there and so do I, but not sure he'll relent. My parents are divorced too, and Dad is not coming because Mum will be there!!!

Like you say, in the end all these people will kick themselves as they will regret it later!

Well, we've got pretty much everything done, with the only things remaining:

    1. Invites to send (being printed at the moment by our own lovely HIB Natalie aka Inspire Me Designs
    2. Buying the favours (as they are chocolate-related apparently we can't order them more than 9 weeks in advance
    3. Sourcing the wood slices for the Centrepieces (see flash on page 1) - our wedding coordinator is trying to get us these from the Estate managers as Harewood is a huge estate over woodland, fields and lake so plenty of wood around when they cut it; if not, Etsy it is, like for everything else.
    4. To pay the Registrar fee (apparently at least 12 weeks before the wedding) and have the meeting to discuss details and approve music etc.
    5. To pay, again in September, the next tranche of payments to TOG and VOG
    6. To have the dress adjustments made
    7. Cake - a friend who's an award-winning cake maker is making it, but she's still to get back to me with a quote
    8. Buy Thanks You gifts, although we really can't afford them - so OH is thinking to draw them family portraits (he's a brill drawer)
    9. Bridesmaids dresses are being ordered on Saturday coming
    10. OH to go to the Suit Hire place for Best Man and Usher to get measured and pay deposits for their suits (OH and I have already been and paid for OH's suit in full).

    And that's about it!
