I call MIL by her name and I would never, ever call her Mum. As a bit of a joke I've been calling FIL Dad since the wedding and he signs off text messages to me as 'D x' but I'm not sure I could do it seriously. I guess I'll graduate to calling them Grandma and Grandad when the baby arrives.

    Bill & Jean.

Or, due to a slip of the tongue that stuck: Jill and Bean.

By their names. SIL's BF calls them Mum & Dad and it sounds so weird!

ETA - every time he says "thanks Mummy" or similar, it just makes me cringe.

First names. Sometimes I call his Dad Raymondo instead of Raymond or Da XXXX (surname).

Would never ever call them mum & dad.

When we have children I would think they'll be granny XXXX surname. OH dad has a gfriend, she'd prob still just be first name.

What they call me is another matter ?

I call them their names, but I might call them Mum and Dad if talking about them e.g. to SIL, "Mum's calling for you", or to my H, "are we going to mum and dad's tonight?" that kind of thing. My parents are Mum and Papa, so we don't get confused.

I use their names. They're not my parents, so I'm not going to call them Mum and Dad. MiL did offer shortly after the wedding, but I politely declined and said "I've been calling you Val for four years already, I'm quite happy to carry on!"

I did try to avoid addressing FiL by name for about the first three years of our relationship though, as I wasn't quite sure if he wanted to be called by his first name or Dr Surname, which is apparently what all OH's previous gfs were supposed to call him!

There names. I'd find it weird to say mum and dad. H calls my mum mum though (not to her face but when talking about her). I call Hs nana and grandad that although usually not to their faces more their names when I'm face to face with them.

His gran added me as a granddaughter on Facebook which I though was quite sweet.

By their first names. Slightly confusing as my H has the same name as his dad, so I sometimes call my FIL "Big A". He has late stage Alzheimer's disease so I could probably call him anything, and as long as I sing to him, he's happy.

I could never call them Mum and Dad. I have my own parents, even though one is dead and those names or anything similar (actually my parents are/were Ma and Pa) are exclusively for them.

MIL by an affectionate shortened version of her name (which all the family call her).

FIL is called Anthony. In his work environment (we work together) he's known as Tony. In his home environment, he's Anthony, or Ant, or Anth. I never know which one to call him, so I normally don't call him anything!

I call my MIL by her first name. She's not my mum. If I'm talking about her to H I'll say "your mum."

Out of curiosity, people with kids/who want kids, how would you feel if they called their in-laws mum and dad? I think I'd be a little miffed.

I cal FIL popeye (OH call him pops, but he hurt his eye a while ago and had to wear an eyepatch so I changed it)

MIL, I usually would just call her her name, OH isn't really that close to her.

I call his grandparents nan and grandad though, they would kill me if I said their names!

By thir names mostly but occasionally I will call out Mum or Dad when they have all the family round as they respond quicker to it and it can be hectic when all their kids and partners are there.

Refer to them as ma and pa *surname*

By their first names - never will I call them mum and dad, I have my own parents. When they sigh cards for me they refer to themselves as their first names, if the card is for both me and H they write 'love mum and dad (first name and first name)'. My parents do the same. Makes me laugh!

My mum to this day calls her MIL Terry's Mum and she just avoids calling her anything to her face.

To be fair my nan is 104 so not sure she remembers her own name!

I do call my mil by her name but it does seem weird however Mrs XYZ is too formal and also now my name!!

Talking about them I use their names, writing cards I always have to do mum and dad because it's from OH too, but to their face I don't call them anything. Just talk at them until they listen. I don't like calling OH by his name either. It just sounds weird. My mum's fiance I always call by his first name and I don't find that weird for some reason.
