What do you do when you're exhausted?

Gryfon, 27 June, 2008 at 12:22 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 6

I've got to get up and try to clean the house but I'm exhausted ☹️ Everything aches, I feel sick and I just have no energy at all. I've been trying to get to bed earlier but I keep waking after about 5 or 6 hours and then it's broken sleep from then until I have to get up to sort the children out for school. I'm just really struggling to function and do the basics although I am trying to go out and not become a hermit!

Doesn't help that Mr G is also tired because of shift work and it always seems to end up as a competition of who's more tired ?

Any tips apart from coffee and even more sleep! ?

Perhaps it's not more sleep that you need but less? Are you waking up naturally after 5-6 hours? If so, that could be your body's way of saying that that's all you need. Forcing yourself to go back to sleep for another couple of hours until the alarm goes off could be making you feel worse rather than better as you are being awoken artificially partway through a natural sleep cycle.

I just give myself tiny little jobs to do with treats/breaks in between. Like, empty the dishwasher and reload. Ignore the rest of the kitchen mess! Then have a cup of tea and read an article in a magazine.

Then clear everything that isn't meant to be in the lounge by chucking it into the hall and then straighten the lounge. Sit on the sofa, close your eyes and tune your head out (not sure of you've ever done yoga? it helps me tune out just by thinking!)

Then chuck the things in the hall into the rooms they should be in. Have some more tea! Move the the rooms, putting away mess. Proper cleaning can come later on once you feel like you've accomplished something and have more motivation and energy!

Lots of little jobs and lots of little treats and rests! Good luck!

    Thanks both.

Hoobygroovy...I went to the doctor and he said I was chronically sleep deprived ? When I do wake I still feel tired which is why I try to go back to sleep.

Hickory...thanks shall try that. I'm usually an all or nothing girl but at the moment it's more nothing which isn't good!

Being totally worn out is very depressing, especially as the children/husband don't stop making a mess when I have no energy ?

Have you thought about going to a spa and taking a floatation treatment or something? They also have sleep pods or something now in some places - I was reading about them the other day. They create the right athmosphere to promote a really good deep sleep.

I could have written that and am in fact going to the docs about it on Mon, I shall report back if she tells me anything of any use.

JK2B, I don't think anyone around here does it and unfortunately I couldn't afford the probable price anyway ☹️

sian*...yeah let me know. My doctor did suggest a book called Power Sleep to read which I have been doing so I'm working my way through that at the moment!

    Hi,

I don't know how easy this would be for you but having a very regular ruotine helps with sleeping problems. It works for small children but it also works for adults too. Get up at the same time every morning whether you feel like it or not and make yourself stay awake till the same time in the evening. Try and follow a similar routine for everyday and your body will soon get used to it. you'll find yourself becoming naturally weary nearer your "bedtime". Sounds daft but it worked for me.
