WHat do you drive and why?

What would you like to be driving? What's your money-no-object choice too - would you go classic beauty, performance super car or something else?

Despite a couple of questions in just a few days, I'm not a huge car person. How about you?

Snap! Except mine is 13 years old. Drive it for exactly the same reasons. Whilst I'm living in London there's no point in having much more than a supermini / hothatch. The amount of times I've had to squeeze into the last remaining space on my road... wouldn't have been possible in a bigger car.

That said, we're getting a new car in October, probably a Golf or a Polo. Still smallish, but with a bit more oomph and comfort Smiley smile

Agree on the big car in the city thing, BV. Big car only if we move out…

Thanks, all. Super helpful. Big sloppy kiss for Footlong, ta.

I've got a 1.9 TDI 58 plate Golf and I love it. In the new golfs however, they've done away with the 1.9 and only have a 1.6 or 2.0. The 1.6 has the same bhp as my 1.9 but, as OH puts it, can't pull the skin off a rice pudding!

As mentioned in another post OH has just got a 11 plate Audi A5 - lovely to drive. They do do they as a 5 door and i think as a cabriolet too.

He has had sooo many cars in the past (he's had 7 in the last 2 years I've know him!). He has had a MX5 and loved it but got sick of a) visiting the petrol station and b) filling it up with oil!

His most luxurious was a Jag XF lovely to drive - I think they are bringing out a few new Jag models soon.

Recently got to drive a Porsche Cayenne, Porsche Boxster and an Aston Martin V8 Vantage at OH's work. The Vantage was a nice drive but had a rather harsh gear change.

I loved both the Cayenne and the Boxster and would happily have either

See I think the Evoque looks like an elephant has sat on the back of it.

Like the new mini - looks like something has sat on the back of that too.

I have a Mk 2 MX-5. We bought it because OH was keen to have a fun sports car while we're still young, and on our budget this was the best value for money we could get. It's awesome fun to drive and is gorgeous. No idea what the MPG is, but it's very reliable and has only ever needed a few minor repairs.

Before that I had a Ford Ka in my last 3 years of uni. It was alright to drive and fairly economical for its size, so worked well as a poor student driving to placements, but it really did not age well. It was made in the same year as the MX-5, but the bodywork was rusting and I had to have several expensive welding repairs done to the chassis, plus a couple of other big jobs. It got to the point when the repairs were going to cost more than it was worth, plus OH hated it, so we sold it and got our current baby.

If money were no object, right now I'd want a BMW Z4, a 911 or one of those sexy beasts like Footlong's. If we had kids, then I'd want an S-type Jag, but more realistically just a standard family saloon will be the route we take.

High five for the smart car! My first car was a smart, absolutely loved it! It had a glass roof, leather heated seats, and I never had to take more than 1 person anywhere with me ? However, when we got the doggy, it became completely unpractical (large labrador + me + OH + smart car doesn't add up...), so now I have an electric blue Citroen C1. I love the look of dinky cars, and out of that, the Toyota Aygo, and the Peugeot 107, it has the best fuel consumption and the lowest road tax (lower than my smart car!).

If I could have any car, it would be either an Audi R8 (mega drool!), or any Ferrari of course in red!

I do love it! And I couldn't learn to drive until I was 23 and passed last year so it's my first car too. Plus OH has a clio if we ever need passengers or a trip to ikea lol. Mine is just for me to go too and from work

I have a Fiat Punto. It was cheap, cheap to insure and cheap to run. I really could not care less about cars, it gets me from A to B and that's all I care about.

H has a 2006 Ford Fiesta in blue.

I'm not allowed a driving licence yet ( because I have seizures and faint a lot not because I was bad in a car or anything!!)

Any car for me would be Audi R8 or an Audi TT, either in gunmetal grey.

H had a wee cheapy boy racer car before, so wanted a family car. He decided if he was getting married he wanted a respectable family car., even though we dont have kids and wont for a long time

He likes Mazdas for his next car.

I have a mazda 3, i.6 diesel. I love it. It drives really well and is plenty powerful enough for me. When my H drives it he always comments how you don't realise how fast you are going. You can easily do 80 or 90 on the motorway without realising it. I think it also looks nice and it has nice extra features like the 6 cd changer and bluetooth. It only costs £30 for tax and does about 50mpg on a normal drive although you can do 60mpg if you drive carefully.

We have a VW passat estate. We wanted something with a big boot (for transporting suitcases and dogs) and that wouldn't develop weird electrical problems like our last car - a Renault Scenic, the windscreen wipers and lights both failed late one very rainy night in the middle of rural Wales, all the door windows opened and we couldn't close them and the 'electronic' handbrake wouldn't work - fun fun fun.

If money was no object, we'd have something like a Aston Martin Vanquish, just because I love them. We'd also have something either like a proper 4x4 for when we go to Scotland or a massive Volvo estate.

Oh and H has a peugeot 206 SW, I hate driving it, I find it uncomfortable and awkward to drive. But it does have a nice big boot space for a relatively small car. He also has 2 minis (proper ones not BMW rubbish), only one of them is roadworthy at the moment. It is great fun to drive and actually surprising how much you can fit in it.

I have a VW New Beetle called Basil. He's a TDi and I love him. We also have the 1983 VW Campervan, but he's just for fun.

I would love to have a Porsche 356. I'm hoping it will be my post-family car, as I honestly really really want one

Currently drive a 3 year old golf. Strong, safe, reliable, excellent mileage when driving back to home town.

However recently cut out on me on a roundabout for no reason during rush hour. Also the fuel filter light comes on too regularly for my liking. Bored of the golf now.

I have a brand spanking new Audi A3 on order for just after the wedding. Chose that because A. I like the safety and reliability of german cars. B. I thought I would look stupid in a new merc at my age (I also look 14)

Also choose family 5 door cars so I can load them up when going home for christmas or when I do a little too much shopping. Also safety for passengers if there was a bump.

Also a bit of a car snob and think it suits my job role and the area I live in....my neighbour has an Audi R8.

We have an Audi A4 convertible and a Kia Soul. I love the Kia, it is economical cute looking and has the pretty led daytime running lights (I am not a car person either evidently) We bought the Kia as our BMW X3 was financially crippling for school runs it just didn't make sense.

I don't know how people afford the fuel for their gas guzzling gorgeous cars!

We have a ford focus and I love it. We used to have a Ka but realised that a baby and it's stuff wouldn't fit very well. Our Focus is a year old and has all the sporty accessories on it which amuses me, it's our blingmobile!

The three door version is a bit silly really as the seats don't move fast enough so you wait for ages and then the gap is tiny to squeeze through. The five door is good though, and there's LOADS of room in them. Plus they really really go!

D works for Jaguar-Land Rover and we were one of the first people to test drive it etc. I love it.

I have a 12 year old fiesta ghia (with a cheeky zetec engine) called LouLou with only 65000 miles on the clock and one careful owner before me. She's very reliable and economical but does have a bit of bite too which can be fun. I absolutely love her but would like something a little bigger for when I have ferry the Netball girls around or have the neice/nephew. Ideally I would have this:

    If money was no object:

I drive an 11 plate Renault Clio..reason for it is it was a 5 door rather the the previous sporty 3 door i owned and was thinking ahead. I am the one with the sensible car, Mr F is the one who has the 'better car'..hes looking at the moment at a golf TDI or a scirroco, or an audi something or other!

I drive a corsa and my H drives a Toyota Celica.

My H used to have an Audi TTS which he luuurrrrvvved and hated selling it....he shouldn't have sold it IMO because thats all I ever F*ing hear about now...I miss my audi...I miss my Audi you get the picture...

He is so impulsive that he thought by selling it this was the most grown up and practicle thing he should do as we were getting married and buying a house together, but in reality it's driving him mad....he's hoping we can buy another Audi at the end of next year though.

If money was no object he would have an Audi R8 and I would have a Mercedes SLK and for our family sized car a Land Rover Evoque would do nicely!

**Edited as I spelt Evoque stupidly ie Evoke lol***8

I have a Vauxhall Tigra 1.8 sport... 6 years old now, had it from new... it was a present to myself when I left my ex as he told me I couldn't have one!

The mpg is rubbish, and the tax is stupidly high but I love it!

If I could have any car it would be an Aston Martin Vantage or an Audi R8. Alas I have no dosh so it is more likely to be a second hand diesel golf/focus/astra.
