What do you eat when you are feeling lazy?

Taffie, 22 August, 2008 at 09:43 Posted on Beauty & Wellbeing 0 8

I guess this is a 2 part question really.

I cook from scratch most of the time, but occasionally if I'm feeling lazy / tired / ill I just want to give in and order pizza ? I managed to resist on Wednesday night, and just ended up picking at a bit of roasted chicken as I couldn't whip up the effort to construct anything more (I had a headache). I usually have leftovers in the freezer that I can use, if I make the effort to find it. The thing is, once that idea of having a pizza is in my mind, it's hard to shake it off. What should be an occasional treat is in danger of being a weekly routine.

So, how do you shake off cravings? I don't believe in deprevation, butI don't want to fancy pizza all the time ? Oddly enough when I ate out on Tuesday I passed over pizza for an amazing salad.

And what are your tips for store cupboard faithfuls that can be whipped up with minimum effort?

I usualy just knock up a chilli when I'm feeling lazy. Only takes just over 1/2 hour and most of that is just occasional stirring. I must admit when i'm really really lazy I do go for the pizza option but make sure it's thin crust and within my points (hark at me, you'd think I'd been doing this for ages and not just over a week ?)

I'm awful for this - takeaways when I'm tired are my downfall.

My strategy has been to batch cook shedloads of casserole type things that are yummy and then freeze them. I know Thursdays are my busiest days, so on Thursday mornings I pull a meal out of the freezer and I'm ready to go. It's not ideal - but I know what's in them and they're healthier than takeaways.

The odd pizza won't hurt you - thin crust and minus manky processed meat they're not too bad - but I have no willpower at all and it would be a weekly event for me in no time!

This doesn't really answer the question about what I eat when feeling lazy, but when I want pizza, I have pizza. I make it myself and it takes about an hour from mixing the dough to geting it out of the oven.

Lazy dinners include jacket spud and tuna, prawn stir fry with noodles, left overs from the freezer, frozen oven chips with a piece of plain fish and salad, pasta and tomato sauce. All of these can be on my plate with half an hour (if I part cook the jacket spud in the microwave).

I mostly only fancy pizza when I am feeling lazy though ? which is really why I opted for something else when eating out the other night. The last time I did make it at home, the base was quite an interesting shape. Sometimes I do mini-pizzas using Pitta bread which are quite tasty.

Stir-fry is a good idea for quick dinners - perhaps I can prepare some frozen stashes of vegetables.

I am fairly hopeless as I just eat cereal or instant noodles mostly LOL. I have a steak and salad today though which takes approx 3 mins to make as I like the steak really rare.

Fruit, salad, scrambled eggs, hummous or avocado mashed onto good granary bread, toast and marmite, non-HM soup (simply organic do a few really nice ones).
