What do you like at weddings?

Mrs_AJ2B, 1 April, 2013 at 14:37 Posted on Planning 0 33

After reading the topic "What don't you like at weddings" I wondered what you lovely ladies do like when you're going to a wedding? Not sure my wedding would be very popular here but hey each to their own, FYI won't be having butterflies/doves at our wedding!

Firstly, I like ceremony and vow taking to go without any glitches.

Speech makers to not have to endure cringing or awkward silences as a result of their jokes

Injections of the bride and grooms personalities into proceedings and or decor

    A relaxed, happy atmosphere

People having a genuinely great time

    - canapes

    -personal touches

    - emotional speeches

    - civil ceremony (find them far more personal)

    - pretty venues

    - imaginative drinks

    - music you can dance to

    - beautiful dresses

Oooh and good food - quite rare at weddings (difficult when food being produced for large number of people!)

Seeing the bride and grooms love and the love from their families towards them.

    Happy relaxed weddings.

Seeing the bride and groom's personality reflected in the wedding.

Page boys and flower girls, ahh!

    Dancing in the evening.

    Unique touches to the day.

That look when the groom turns around at the top of the aisle and sees his bride for the first time, always watch out for that.

Not having been to a full wedding since a child I am not really sure!

I hope ours has lots of smiles and laughter, a meaningful service, lots of good food and drink, lots of photographs, funny and sweet speeches.

It's already been said, but I love it when the couples personalities have been injected into the wedding. It makes such a massive difference to the whole atmosphere and feel of the day.

I love it when grooms have played a big part in the planning process and are as excited about it all as the bride.

I was quite surprised how well my wedding fared in the 'things you don't like' thread ?

I love a humanist ceremony where everything is about the couple and from the heart with no fakery.

A hotel that can cope with cooking for numbers and the tatties and veg aren't rock solid.

Music that gets people up dancing and having a laugh.

Oh yeah so that was my wedding ?

I just want ours to have a relaxed and happy atmosphere. I'm worried as my mum's sisters are always falling out and one isn't speaking to most the other at the moment, and she is very gobby. So it may all kick off after a few drinks. If it does I will be asking her to leave! Smiley sad So nobody fighting or falling out would be number 1!!

I like a Church ceremony with traditional vows

    Classical music

    Fresh flowers

Good quality and quantity of canapes with welcome drinks while bride and groom are having photos done

    A sit down meal

    Live band in the evening

I absolutly love the moment when the groom turns round to his bride walking down the aisle towards him.

so moving! and can see the love between them!

(i think with mine i probably stumble, do on a daily basis. which will make him laugh)

i like when at the meal everyone makes an effort to talk to others, not sat with the face on because don't know anyone.

it is about two families becoming as one.

I like it when my comfort as a guest has been considered - the venue should be at a good temperature (be it Church, stately home, hotel). I should never be hungry and/or thirsty and there should be somewhere for me to sit if I want to.

I love a good party atmosphere when the evening do kicks off - and I love it when there is a really happy, celebratory atmosphere amongst the guests.

I like it when the bride and groom really relax and laugh and chat with people.

I like good music, lots and lots of fresh flowers and good food.

I feel like my 'likes' all centre around how well my needs are met - I think I am a bit of a selfish guest!

I like both church and civil ceremonies, wherever the content has been chosen because the B&G love it, not because it's popular.

Singing hymns I know in church.

Bride going first down the aisle.

    Good food.

    Nice drinks.

    Funny, moving speeches.

    Cheesy music in the evening.

Like Gurzle says, feeling that my comfort has been taken into consideration.

Seeing the B&G happy and in love, rather than stressing over how the day is going.

    Good food

    Good wine/drinks

Edible/drinkable favours, I don't want some sentimental item with your wedding date on it, such an item will never take pride of place anywhere in my home.

Adequate seating in the evening, does not have to be allocated but like to have the option to sit down if feet start to ache.

Nice outside space for smokers with ashtrays (extra bonus points for outdoor chairs, tables and heaters)

I can live with everything else if the above is all good!

Joint effort between H2B and I, but here we go:-

    Pastel colours

Acres and acres of land for photographs

Tasty food that everyone is familiar with

    70's/80's/90's disco music

    Family involvement

    Lace, pearls & vintagey things

    Funny readings/speeches

    Chair covers with light-coloured sashes

Small flower arrangements, but plenty of them

Dogs (we wanted our dog at our wedding, but can't arrange it {Smiley sad]

    Antique gold

    Fruitcake

    Think that's it

I love almost everything about weddings!! I love seeing how excited the Bride and Groom are - I love really passionate, heartfelt speeches esp from the Father of the Bride, also love personal touches, good food, a fun and happy atmosphere and that feeling that everyone there is so incredibly happy for the couple!

Hmm, a relaxed atmosphere, quick ceremony, lots of laughter and chit chat, plenty of food and drink, etc. As far as decor goes, I like when it's kept simple, just simple fresh flowers and the like and no need for too much stuff. I like lots of choice when it comes to food and treats, and there should always be food or drink on offer. I like fun and games like dinner quizzes, funny speeches, and other things to make people laugh. Oh, and dancing. Lots of dancing and guests screaming out the lyrics to their favourite songs as they jump around on the dance floor.

    I like a wedding.

Weddings are such a personal thing that your never gonna please everyone but tbh you shouldnt have to! the day is about the bride and groom and nothing more. I haven't been to a wedding i haven't enjoyed and i've been to loads, wether it be a reg office do with a knees up in WMC or a posh do in a country hotel or church and stately home because the weddings reflect the couple getting married and if you care about the couple you will enjoy spending one of the most important days in their lives with them regardless of where it is or what they have chosen.

A ceremony that's personal to bride and groom.

A day that's suited to the bride and groom. It's painful watching people who are normally really casual try to do the formal lord and lady of the manor thing and obviously not enjoying it, similarly trying to do a casual picnic-y thing when you're normally to be found in fully make-up and designer heels is not going to make for a happy day.

Good food and drinks, extra points for non-alcoholic options other than water.

Room to move around and places to sit.

Above and beyond everything - a happy and relaxed bride and groom, which I think is pretty much guaranteed by the first two.

An atmosphere where families can relax, with plenty to do for the kids. A few heart wrenching moments but generally not too slushy. A wedding which really reflects who the bride and Groom are. A celebration, rather than a day where eeryone needs to be on their best formal behaviour.

and of course the look that first look when the Groom sees the Bride ?

    I like:

    Funny speeches

    Chocolate fountains

    The evening buffet

A disco - it's like all the benefits of a night out, without extortionate door fees, and all your friends are there

A chance to take a bunch of photos

    Matchy matchy!

Getting to wear a nice outfit

The things I liked most at my wedding were:

    Canapes and Pimms

3 course sit down meal with good wine

Pianist through ceremony, photos and meal

My flowergirls who had fairy wings and wands (wands made by one of our amazing HIB's) so they could play fairies for the day

Good food and drink - not meaning posh nosh per say just wholesome foods

    good service from staff!

a modern ceremony - be it church or civil but one that is reflection of the times. hard to explain really.

Children - yes children!! i meant its about two families coming together, kids are apart of that.

I don't think I could pin just one thing as I quite like everything to do with a wedding... But the most moving bit has goto be when the bride turns up at the end of the aisle and the groom takes a little look behind... The looks between them both are amazing, you can feel the love. I just hope my H2B does the same :-) x

At weddings, more often than not you don't know many people there, maybe only the bride/groom and I love it when the families try to integrate you and get to know you.
