What do you reckon to this quote for flowers and ting...

Gurzle, 26 April, 2011 at 16:36 Posted on Planning 0 25

Hi everyone - really I should be finishing my dissertation RIGHT NOW but I have decided to give myself a quick break. Sooooo I have a coffee, I have a small black Pug asleep on my lap, here we go....

Had an appointment with a florist last week, she was LOVELY. Extremely professional (had all the bumf...sent out quote in a folder etc) and very knowledgeable, all in all I had a feeling that as she was a bit of a class act we might end up paying a fair bit (she also had loads of flower books in German as 'they are the best kind - most flowers are imported from Holland' - I was impressed!).

So:

1 brides bouqet (gyp plue something else...)

4 bridesmaid bouqets (gyp plus stocks...we think)

1 bridesmaid pomander (gyp)

2 corsages (mums) (gyp)

2 huge glass urns on plinths full of blossom (April wedding) for the ceremony room (urns and plinths hire cost inclusive)

4 table decs: huge white vases full (and I mean a BIG cloud) of gyp

4 tables decs: huge white vases full (and I mean a BIG cloud) of gyp with blossom branching out of the top (very high) (again vase hire inclusive)

8 buttonholes (just gyp, fashioned to look like dandelion heads)

gyp for cake

8 mirrors for the table decs

All delivered and set up included.

Came to £975...what do you think to that? I live in a pretty expensive area down South so add that into the equation. I had kind've been hoping for under £800, espesh as I know gypsophila is fairly cheap (I do LOVE it though, it looks like a cloud when there's lots and lots of it). Would love your thoughts on this one.

I'm in the South too and got

    1 brides bouquet

    2 adult bm's bouquets

    2 child bm's bouquets

    8 corsages

10 fishbowl centrepieces with mirror plates, candles etc

    1 thank you bouquet

    1 large top table display

gerberas and roses are being used in all and mine came to £675. But i'm probably using alot less flowers in the my centrepieces than you.

Oh yes - and I forgot to add in a top table bowl display thingy too...

Hmmm, looking at your costs CassMK2, I reckon mine might be about right. Ho hum.

Ouch! My flower bill was only £120 (but obviously had a lot less than you!).

Cass - who did you go with in the end?

Seems a bit on the pricey side but I guess that's the price you pay living in the south. I am having

    All cream roses

    1 bridal Bouq

    4 bridesmaid posies

    Pew end decorations

9 centre peice arrangments complete with tea lights, mirror etc

    8 button holes

    2 corsages

Inlcuding delivery and set up £450 (North East based)

Not sure where you are and not sure if many of my flowers are comparable but we're having a lot of gyp too.

As centre pieces, we're having huge hurricane vases with church candles and gyp in the bottom (it will be quite a lot of gyp too). We've just received an inital quote this afternoon and we'll be paying £18.50. This will include the gyp, candles, vase hire and a ribbon on each to co-ordinate.

Hopefully this will give you an idea for pricing. Our thinking was that we'd go for a lot of gyp too as I a) love it because it looks fluffy (like you I love that big cloudy effect) and b) it's relatively cheap so we can have a lot of it for our budget to give the impression of a lot of flowers.

Does sound like your lady is a bit like ours - she gave a very high end styling impression with a very impressive portfolio. Her house was very chic and she really seemed to know what she was talking about. If you want my opinion yours does sound a little over priced. Have you been back to yours to may negotiate?

Hmmmm....I think I will try and get a few more quotes. I REALLY don't want to do my flowers myself though, I am not up for any extra stress or hassle tbh, and the idea of everything magically appearing and then disappearing suits me FINE (although I realise I may have to pay for this little luxury! ?

I didn't want any flowers! I ended up with a small handtied gerbera bouquet myself (£16), 4 small germini bouquets for the flowergirls (£10), 6 x corsages and 20 x button holes. I think it was £117.50, then we added 3 x thank you flowers at £30 each so just over £200 in total.

I didn't want any but my sister told me to have them or I'd have nothing to hold in the pictures. On the day I put my flowers on my dress as I got bored of holding them!!

Believe it or not i didn't want to spend lots on flowers either as my attitude is 'they will be dead by the end of the day'. But my CBM 'told' me flowers make everything look beautiful and it will be money well spent. Plus my mum loved flowers and i know she would of been very disappointed if i had scrimped on that part of the wedding.

Still, with your quote including centre pieces it's not as bad as it first seems.

Am really excited to see your photos and report. Not in a stalkerish way, just looking forward to seeing another OH wedding! ?

We are having off-white roses and freesias and for £170 we are getting:

1x pedestal in church (we are paying half of this as it is shared between our wedding and another one)

    1x brides bouquet

    3x adult bridesmaid bouquets

    3x mini bridesmaid bouquets

    5x buttonholes

    2x corsages for mums

Am very happy - we had budgeted £300 and expected it to come in at around that so we are really very lucky.

Flowers will look like this (in the various guises above):

    Sounds pretty reasonable to me.

We're using some gyp within our flowers but also having peonies, lily of the valley etc so our total cost is more than yours. As a guide though, our florist quoted me £1 a stem for the gyp to use as we wanted. Have managed to barter this down though.

If flowers are that important to you and you have the budget then go for it... I personally could not spend nearly £1k on flowers.

I had silk flowers for bouquets and buttonholes, none in the church and none at the reception venue...

Same as what Mrs C said..

I am having silk button holes and bouquets and nothing for the reception. I love flowers but my hayfever doesnt!

    ?

If you want them and can easily justify the cost, then go for it!

RaeF...I did wonder what OH meant....! We are getting married at Spains Hall not Orsett Hall, they wouldn't let TOWIE film at Spains, even though they asked (was secretly VERY disappointed).

Mrs C & Kate - totally know what you mean, if it's important then you just have to go for it, and flowers are so important to me, I love 'em!

Flippin' 'eck Leni, that is what I call a good deal! Thank you everyone for your help - so handy to get an idea of what everyone is having, I know we are spending a lot on flowers and I'm happy to do that, but it is also handy to know that there are fantastic deals to be had out there if we do decide to compromise and have a few less flowers around the place on the day.

I am going to go to some local florists and see what they come up with - I will let you all know if I get anywhere with it, and if I do get a cheaper quote, would you recommend going to the original florist and telling her we can get it cheaper elsewhere and seeing if she can match it? I am an appalling haggler - I pretty much always just pay full price as it makes me feel so uncomfortable!

I'm awful with the battering too but think we're going to have to do it. Our quote isn't huge but the first florist we spoke to seems to almost be expecting it - well OH and I got that vibe when speaking to her - she mentioned about how we should go back to her with other quotes. I don't even think she's expensive but then we didn't want to let on about the size of our budget! ?
