What do you think about necklaces with a dress with straps?

cford09, 15 May, 2012 at 10:54 Posted on Planning 0 15

Morning everyone :-)

This is one I've been thinking about for ages and can't seem to make a decision about. I know you girls are good at this kind of stuff so here goes!

My dress has quite chunky lace straps and a sweeheart neckline and I can't decide what to do about a necklace. I can't find one I like let alone one that goes with the dress and now I'm wondering, would you even wear a necklace if your dress has straps?

I would if I had strapless as I would feel a bit bare, but do you think it's too 'busy' to have the lace straps and a necklace and the sweetheart neck? I'm definitely going to be wearing earrings, a bracelet and a side tiara so tour opinion would be most appreciated :-)

I think we need to see a flash to decide. I would say delicate 'Y' shape necklace can look lovely with straps though. It all depends on the level of detailing in the lace dress straps.

My straps are the most detailed part of my dress, so I'm not having a necklace. I'm just havign earrings and a bracelet.

My dress has wide straps and a sweetheart neckline, not alfred angelo 1148 is it?!

I'm having a necklace, nothing fussy though, a sliver cross on a chain with a diamond in the centre, from H Samual.

Ooooo I've never flashed it before! The pics aren't very good quality as they are screenshots from my phone (didn't want to save it to the computer incase OH saw!)

Exactly this - I wanted to wear my nan's pearl necklace but then decided on having very detailed straps added to my dress so i'll be wearing the necklace as a bracelet.

Usually I'd concerntrate on a chunky bracelet/dangley earrings/statement side tiara if a dress had straps but I think your straps are quite delicate and they do not sit close to your neck so you still have a lot of space above the dress neckline (Can't think how to word that!) so I don't think you are limited to the style of necklace and a round necklace as well as a pendant would be fine. I think a Y shape would be too bulky thought and would mean that too much was going on. Just my opinion.

Your dress looks stunning! I think you could go either way with this one. Lots of people go for just earrings and bracelet but i think i would go for a necklace too. My dress has a v neckline and i plan on wearing a necklace. I think a chain with a simple delicate pendant or a Y-shaped necklace would look good - that's what i'm going for with mine!

    Happy shopping!

I think you could get away with a necklace with this dress. I would go for something sparkly but not to overstated.

    I agree with Lisaloulou.

With straps I would normally say go without and concentrate on nice earrings and bracelet. With your dress I do think you could easily get way without wearing one, it wouldn't look bare or odd but I do also think with the delicate straps and neckline you could easily have one without it looking too much! I think I would stick to a round shape like a string of pearls and/or crystals or delicate pendant on a fine chain.

    Stunning dress by the way!

Thank you everyone! I was a bit nervous about flashing to be honest as the pictures do it no justice at all!

I agree, I really fancy a small crystal pendant on a fine chain but haven't found anything I like yet (picky I know!). Lucky I've still got a while to go!

it's quite delicate and I like the fact you get the matching earrings.
