Mine works in corporate banking in the City but is considering a career change. Thought a post on the topic would be inspiring and interesting!

Self employed gardener. Best thing he ever did starting on his own.
He is not just a guy with a mower. He did 3 years at college.

Ahh, IIRC it's the same firm my H works for as a forensic accountant! Although he's never actually in Canary Wharf except for maybe a dozen days a year.

He's been off work for quite a while with mental health problems. Which I don't really recommend as a career choice...

He's been getting better slowly and is now ready to return to work, so I'm very proud of him for that. Now if only there were jobs for him to apply for.

H is a mechanic and currently working for the McLaren formula 1 team... He loves it but spends waaaay too much time away from home (last race of the season this weekend though, hooray!) In a couple of years he wants to set up his own business where he can tinker with (super) cars all day at his leisure.

Management accountant for an insurance company. I have suggested he becomes a forensic accountant as l think he would be really good at it.

H loves it. He investigates things and doesn't just look at numbers all day. Seems much more interesting to me than being any other kind of accountant.

All of these exciting careers make my OH look boring!

His degree is in Geology but he is currently working as a claims coordinator for a local insurance company (he's been so busy since the 'great storm of 2013'!). His aim to work his way through the company and train as a surveyor. Failing that he will ditch me and move to Australia to work with the gold mines Smiley winking

Mine works for of the big banks based in CW.

Horace - career changes are so tough, and working your way up as well. Is his job relatively stable? I would hate for me or my H to have a career change at this time in our lives but you got to do what feels right for you. My H doesn't see himself staying in same role until he retires, but I think it's so had to leave

Clairehj, so true, H's job is less stable than it was before the recession. But it is soul destroying seeing him so fed up ? I feel like it is the lesser of two evils in the long run. So tricky though!

Everyone's OH's Jobs are so diverse!

My H is a "Data Quality Specialist" for an exam board. He spends all day messing around with spreadsheets and databases, running reports and doing presentations. He's desperate for a job as an Analyst though. Even more spreadsheets!
