What dress did you dream of and what did you end up buying...

ImagineIt, 13 December, 2012 at 15:46 Posted on Planning 0 39

I've stolen this from another forum. ?

Did you have a particular dress in mind that you wanted and then ended up buying something completely different?

I wanted a bateaux neck, a-line full length dress. Like Sassi Holfords Beatrice.

I ended up buying Ella 5698

Slightly different, but I loves her. ?

Dream dress: (not available anywhere in the UK)

    My dress:

Both chiffon full skirts, and I had to have the detachable sleeves made for mine, but I do wish I'd have been able to get the dream dress over here, I just love the lacy bits.

My ideal dream dress was by Justin Alexander:

but when I tried it on it looked awful on me! My FMIL even asked if I'd put it on the right way round.

I got what I thought I would never want- a strapless, a line dress... but she is beautiful!

Dream Dress was something like this:

Real dress - I won't be posting it on here until after the wedding as OH is always snooping around on the web and my username is one I use everywhere! Plus I've already bumped into one of OH's friends on here ? But it's VERY different to this one.

I don't have photos but I wanted sleeves of some kind and a bit princessy. Ended up strapless/a line. Love it though, all the dresses with sleeves made me look like an idiot and about 20 years older!

Well this was always my dream dress (until OH vetoed a pink wedding)

I ended up with very plain jane, boring.

It has buttons all down the back, but no sparkle or big princess ness that I had always wanted (shame the big dresses didn't suit me, this one really did!)

Wow, Stoice I love the dress you ended up buying! It's really unique, gorgeous. Can I ask which one it is? I've not even gone dress shopping yet but threads like this get me really excited! Can't wait till I go and start trying loads on ?

The sort of dress I wanted (although this would always have been too expensive but I like the 70s style and the lact particularly)

And this is the dress I bought.

Sorry the quality is rubbish - it was second hand and isn't on the designers website anymore. As you can see, it isn't really the 70s hippy vibe and has very little lace. It looked amazing on!

Thank you so much, it really is stunning. On a mission to track it down now! Though I bet it won't suit me as I think the one you fall in love with rarely does, haha.

This is my favouritest I've ever seen, and I'm not that really into dresses:

but it costs, like...a MILLION pounds (well, £3000...and I just don't have it so it might as well be a million pounds)

However, THIS kind of shape looks best on me, although I don't particularly like the shiny blinginess and the colour's revolting...but if the shoe (dress) fits...!! ? As long as I don't look like a pillock on the day I'm basically happy. Haven't bought ANY dress yet...

I LOVE Claire Pettibone dresses. Though there's no way we can afford her prices. If there's anywhere or any way of getting them cheaper somewhere in the UK please let me know!!

Yeah, they're not cheap. Your best bet for a bargain might be a sample or pre-owned?

Yes there are a few on pre-loved at the moment, I was looking and mine is on there, just not in my size. I got mine when the shop had a 10% off day so its worth looking about x

Ooh, how exciting, I can join in with this now (sort of). My dream dress is this (Justin Alexander):

And I tried it on last Saturday, and surprisingly, it actually looked good on me (thought it would be a case of me loving it, but it not loving me). Haven't ordered it yet because that was my first trip and I'll probably try a few more on, but do ❤️ it!

    Then I really liked this

    .

But in ivory with a black belt! It's ordered!

Missupsp2b- I'm so glad you like it- it just didn't suit me but it is such a beautiful dress. Looks like it definitely a favourite from these posts.

I just organised my old wedding magazines to give to a friend who's recently engaged and saw my dress on the very first magazine I bought- it must have been fate!
