What evening entertainment are you having?

CrazyCanuck, 30 March, 2011 at 14:59 Posted on Planning 0 18

Just looking for some ideas really, I haven't been to many weddings and I don't have much of an imagination for what might be fun for our guests in the evening. Our wedding is going to be very child friendly so we'll want something to keep them entertained too.

Sorry this is so vague, i've got some sort of idea in my head about how I want the day to go up until we sit down to eat, but after that there's nothing so any ideas would be very useful to me. We've got quite a mix of people on our invite list, all age ranges, so I think it might be hard catering for all of them.

    Hi,

As wth most weddings, there is often a big mix of different ages etc, we have opted for a wedding singer - who will sing songs similar to Michael Buble at the beginning of the night (like swing type music) then later on, he will also be singing some chart music and then will go on to do the Dj and put your usual chart music on for the disco.

As for the kids, were thinking of getting a magician in, possibly around the meal times, or thereafter.

Am sure most of the kids will enjoy having a boogie on the dance floor though! HTH

No need to stress - if they're true friends they'll enjoy whatever you're providing.

We're being different from the usual disco and having a barn dance (read 'square dance' to americans) instead, everyone can participate and not take it too seriously, and if people make a mess of it it's even more fun for everyone.

Although there are a number of children coming, we aren't providing anything specific for them, partly as we don't have the budget for it, and partly as we don't see it as our responsibility to entertain other people's kids on top of what we're already providing.

OH really wants a roulette table for the evening but as we're in the same room for everything and its upstars, I can jusr imagine it being a logistical nightmare!! Also, one table for approx. 200 guests just won't work so I'm trying to persuade him to re-think it.

I've been thinking about providing things for people to do on the tables for the lull between ceremony/meal and meal/evening - some silly things like we're going to have a playlist for that time with songs from our favourite films for people to guess, and I've found a computer programme that can turn our photos into colouring book pages. But to be honest, whenever I've gone to a wedding I've always managed to entertain myself - it's always so much fun catching up with people I haven't seen for years etc and I never need anything else

Nothing out of the ordinary for us - were having a band and a DJ and gonna put out a sweetie table at night along with buffet for the kids (hmmmm...and me! Bring on the Haribo!!!)

We wanted an LED dancefloor & can get one but they will only set up in the morning which is no use as you cant put table & chairs on top of it (we need 16 x 16) so the tables would be placed way too far away from top table Smiley sad Ideally needs set up whilst band are setting up. Thought it would be class bor our first dance together & a real talking point but no such luck.

Having 'extra' doesn't always have to cost extra. We have a lot of DJs round the country that offer additional entertainment alongside their disco such as games, Barn dancing (Ceilidh) etc. We have loads that are able to offer some children's entertainment early evening with siliiy dances and games and one in the East Anglian area that also does a magic show for the children before he starts the disco. Wedding DJs are becoming much more diverse and varied in what they offer so its definitely worth looking into. I know most of our members in the wedding DJ Alliance do more than just press play.

We are having a band if we can afford it, DJ if not. Also I sorted some garden games yesterday so we will have giant jenga, connect four, etc for the big and little kids. We have a huge outdoor area and a patio area so if it's nice hopefully people will want to be outside.

We're having a DJ, photobooth and garden games, the kids will have things to keep them occupied in their goody bags and we might set up a small lounging area with beanbags and cushions for them to flop around and play their DSI/PSP etc on (we have a fair few tweenagers coming!)

We are having a 50s rock n roll band. We chose them because we saw them at a different wedding and everyone was dancing. The music appeals to young and old! :-)

We are having a fair few children at the wedding, but not doing anything specific. Kids keep themselves entertained at weddings. There will be activity books/toys for them to keep them quiet during the speech. My SIL got married last year and had lots of kids, she had a magician but only 2 of the children watched him (the others were playing in the grounds of the venue as it was a beautiful day).

We have a 2-piece acoustic band coming to sing for us during the BBQ from about 3.30 until about 7pm. Then we're just having a DJ. As our wedding will be outdoors, we will be having lawn games for the kids while it's light out and table-top activities. We were going to hire a magician but we figured it wouldn't be worth it really.

Ceilidh band. No DJ - not necessary on our timings really, and we can't go too loud or the parents will winge!

A barn dance sounds great fun AJ!

We're having a band, I think that's probably more traditional in Scotland - I've only been to one wedding (on Sat actually) where there was anything other than a band. I do think that a live band add something to the overall atmosphere, however at the wedding on Saturday they had a DJ and I really enjoyed the fact that they were able to play heaps of recent songs (as in out in last couple of weeks) which most bands can't do.

    Benefits to both, definitely.

We've hired a huge bouncy castle and bought loads of garden games (giant chess, giant Jenga, an A3 deck of cards, etc) and booked a DJ for the evening. OOH and we've bought a 6ft TARDIS cardboard cutout to make a DIY photobooth.
