What evening entertainment do I need for 50 guests?!

RomanticOrangeDecor31270, 20 December, 2018 at 13:04 Posted on Planning 0 6

I’m getting married in July and am having a panic about evening entertainment formor 50 or so guests. The wedding party is mainly family with a handful of close friends. The venue is a large country hotel with a barn attached where the wedding breakfast and evening part will take place.

I love to dance as do my friends. My OH does too but his friends are a bit more reserved. My fear is having a disco that is jarringly empty. I wondered if anyone has any advice or tips for evening entertainment form50 or less guests?

If money was no budget, a singer or band to begin with followers by a DJ would be fun but probablt

too expensive.

Hello. I’m wondering if you would consider percussion to add a live element to your DJ? When I got married, I booked a bongo player to accompany the DJ and everyone loved it! Dance floor was packed (after they had a few drinks!)

Fifty enthusiastic guest would be perfect for a barn dance - plenty of space for whirling and do-si-dos. Not as expensive as booking a large function/party band and usually includes a patient caller to show everyone the moves and direct the dances. Here are a selection of Barn Dance and Ceilidh bands to take a look at = fun and lively wedding entertainment.

and here is a wider selection of live groups that play many musical styles and genres.

Be wary of booking barn dance groups - there's always someone on the fiddle!

    Hi,

This can be a tricky one.

The smallest wedding reception we have played for is 30 guests, and the biggest 1000! and it was a crazy night! But...the venue was quite small and nobody felt the pressure of a big room with not enough guests to fill it.

How big is your venue? How many guests with small children who might disappear at 9pm before the party really gets going? If it's a big room can it be partitioned off in anyway to make it feel more intimate?

Plus always remember a band will offer somekind of dj service to keep everything moving!

Depending on the size of the room where the evening part is taking place your numbers sound absolutely fine. A good DJ will know how to judge the atmosphere of those in the room. Also we have had to give our DJ a list of songs that we would really like playing and ever tried to incorporate some that we know should get people on the dance floor. I know it’s a worry but it’s not something you can overly plan until the nihhht is there, I am sure though people will have an amazing time regardless

CWhere abouts in the country are you / your wedding venue?

We were very lucky to have my best man organise the evening entertainment for us, as that’s what he does!

Min the early evening once the tables had been cleared, we had a ‘keys’ player playing in the background whilst people mingled and the rest of the band set up.

Then from about 7pm the band done their thing, which people got up on the dance floor, which surprised me with my lot!!

After they finished, for the last couple of hours, he carried the night away with a disco.

Our wedding wasn’t massive, but the dancfloor saw plenty of feet!

i can pass you his details and see if he covers your area if you’re interested.

    Hey there,

Most bands and singers these days will offer a 'DJ' set within their package so you can rest assured that you can get the best of both if you book live music.

An upbeat acoustic duo might be worth considering if you have a small number of guests. It won't be so overpowering and they can certainly get guests up and dancing. Better yet, if the dance floor does empty slightly it's no problem. An acoustic duo can work as background music too Smiley smile

Another alternative is a Saxophonist paired with a DJ. This is really popular at the moment and adds a live element to a DJ set in a fun way!

Let me know if you have any other questions.
