What "fakery" are you having on the day?

ebony_rose, 28 April, 2009 at 16:22 Posted on Planning 0 30

Hair extensions, fake tan, nails etc?

Was speaking to H2B about people who have fake nails and tans for their wedding day when they don't usually bother with it. He said he didn't see the point, and said he'd hate it if i turned up with a tan and hair extensions as i wouldn't look like me.

What are you having, if anything, and why?

Not having anything fake for the same reason really.

I'm not into fake tan, hair extensions etc so all that sort of stuff is a big no no for me.

I have short hair & people keep saying " are you going to grow it for the wedding??"

Why would I want to do that!!!!!

I want to look like me on my wedding pics.

    ?

Mr hillier is exactly the same.

however ? the only thing i will be do is use dove tinted moisturiser ? im very fair (skin & hair) so i feel it will look a bit more natural. did have a spray tan done for my 21st and it just looked soooooo wrong on me!

think its each to their own though some girls make it look stunning by not going too OTT. My cousin had hair extenstions & fake nails and she looked lovely as none of it looked fake - if that makes sense ? lol x

Extra padding in my bra ? cos my boobs need a helping hand, and maybe eyelashes, but only if i can do them properly and they look natural. probably because they will make me look better in photos.

can't be bothered with fake nails (they look silly on my baby sized hands) nor extensions - i've been growing my hair like a demon since we got engaged.

i am going for a few short sunbeds ? before the wedding, though that's more about getting my skin ready for thailand, and looking less blue in photos!

I considered hair extensions so I went and tried some and I hated them so they're gone

I have naturally long nails so thats sorted, just gonna paint em as normal, I also go on the sunbed for 5 mins a week which is more than enough for me ?

As long as you are happy and comfortable do what you want ?

I'm having some hair extensions, but only because I haven't got quite enough hair for my chosen style, so we're just adding in a few to give my side bun a bit of extra bulk. That's all though. The idea is that nobody should realise that it's not my own hair. If I had short hair I wouldn't have suddenly turned up on the day with Rapunzel-like locks.

I'll be as pale as normal and my nails will be my own.

I'm going to have 4 sunbed sessions before we leave for the wedding. Also will get a little colour put in my hair. I've been growing out a bad colour for the last 18 months so it's all natural at the moment. Some subtle high and low lights should look good... I hope.

    Hi,

I'm going to cheat a little only because I want to look my absolute best on the day.

Probably will either use dove tinted moisturiser or rimmel sun shimmer as I think everyone looks so much better with a bit of colour.

Am also having just french tips on my nails just incase mine break the day before or something & there'll be lots of hand shots showing rings etc

And finally some false eyelashes to open my eyes up

That sounds like a look doesn't like. oooppps

    Hi,

My sister wants me to have a spray tan as i'm very pale but I think I'll just use some tinted moisturizer!! I like the pale look. I will also be having my nails done but only because I bite them and they will look dreadfull otherwise. No other fakes for me tho, I agree that you should look natural and like yourself on your wedding day, after all h2b is marrying you for who you are not how you look on that one day!

Chicken fillet inserts as my dress looks better with slightly bigger boobs.

Nail extensions of some sort ( i have no idea about these) as i have less than 4 weeks to go and i have broken 5 nails down to the flesh so can't imagine they will look decent in 4 weeks.

No fake tan for me as it always goes streaky.

Gel tips for my nails, they do normally get a good length but then break so want to protect them, might do eyelashes as well to make my eyes stand out a bit more but will try them closer to the time ?

I'll just have a bit of fake tan on - just to give a light even glow and cover up red blotches, blue tinges etc. I normally where it when baring a certain amount of flesh! Hair, nails, eyelashes etc will be my own.

I just don't believe in fakery. Yes, I'll be wearing makeup, and will have my hair done nicely - well hopefully!

I just really hate it when bides turn up and just don't look like themselves. Long fake hair, orange tan and false nails would just be my worst nightmare.

I was considering contacts for the wedding, but Iain got quite upset about that and really was keen for me to look as I usually do when we go out.

I'm all for making the best of what you've got, but too much fakery is just not my thing. Plus way too much effort!!!

totally agree with all of this. It's when brides go OTT with tanning and hair extensions when i think it looks awful.

Forgot to add what "fakery" i'm having. no fake tan for me, i just don't "do" tans. I have pretty much zero colour, always have done, so thats the way i intend to be on the day.

If i was to have hair extensions, then it would just be my braids, but im not having them in.

I am having fake ear lobes though! sounds weirder than it is. i have 8mm flesh tunnels, but am getting flesh plugs to wear to fill the holes in, and then i can put my earings in under the plug. any of that make sense?...thought not.

I'm probably going to have false nails put on (used to have them when I could afford them) mainly because my real nails refuse to grow. They grow and then completely snap - probably because I put fake nails on them. ?

Also, might have a couple of extensions put in as wanting hair curled - just so it looks like I have a bit more but shouldn't look like it is fake IYSWIM.

Not fake tanning but might use johnsons stuff - used it last year in the summer and gives a nice glow. Nothing too dramatic.

I'm probably going to have fake nails of some kind, probably just the tips that get put on. I chew my nails quite often and they never look nice. Only reason I'm going to get them is I figure lots of people will be looking at my hands on the day, so I want them to look respectable! Other than that I'll be all me!!

I'm intending to have some kind of spray tan or dove but thats about it. But i might consider some more small stuff nearer the time like getting my eyelashs curled or tinted (so my mascara doesn't run with all the tears!) but nothing that 'Isn't me'. I think we all want to look the best we can but by still being true to who we are. (wow that sounds a bit schmulzy but you get the idea!!)

What a refreshing post!! For a while weddings seemed to be more about looking almost like someone your hubby 2 b wouldn't recognise!! Tanned, long hair when you have short, extensions on this that and the other!

I had a few cerise hair extensions for my big day to match my dress and add a bit of fun to my hair but it was for colour not to make me look like I'd grown a foot of hair overnight. I was lucky enough to have a tan as had been on a weddingmoon before my UK ceremony, and yes, I did have 'nails' done - my fingers are fairly short and stumpy and my nails are a mess so I wanted to make them look a bit tidier!!! I didn't have them for my proper wedding as long nails and suncream just do my head in!

I didn't lose any weight for the big day, and I didn't wear any makeup other than mascara and a bit of eye shadow for either of my ceremonies ...

I think my style has softened as I've got older. I've only had the false nails thing done once but a couple of years ago it would have been a darker tan, hair dyed redder and straightened (to an inch of its life!) and lots of make up. Much more natural now. Or lazy!

Anyway on my wedding day I'll look like me except with my hair up and wearing a posh frock!

O dear, I seem to be falling into the FAKE camp alone lol!!!

I am having hair extensions and will hopefully have a light tan. I am not sure about having nails done as I am terrible with long nails, I can imagine I would have to have someone help me with my underwear let alone my dress on the day.

I'll be having gel nails but that's because I have them anyway. I'll probably try to tan up a little as well - I'm looking so white and the moment that I actually look blue! I'm not growing my hair, it'll be exactly how it is now but with a headband or something.

I may have some hair extensions put in to give a bit more volume rather than length as the hairdresser got a bit happy with the scissors in December, I had no idea I'd be getting married 8 months later at the time. I'll have a manicure which may include gel depending on the state of mine at the time (horses and nail don't really mix!) Eyeleashes will be done as it's the only thing that helps disguise my dodgy eyelid! I wear them a lot of the time anyway and they aren't obviously fake at all. Tan, well I'm hoping the fab British summer we are obviously going to have will sort that for me! I guess I'm quite high up the fake-o-metre but should all be subtle enough not to look ott- she hopes!

Not really having anything fake. I get my hair coloured anyway to cover greys and that will be the same colour on the day. People asked me if I was going to grow it for the wedding and tbh can't think why people do. Long hair is just so not me so why would I grow it?!

Not doing the tan thing, did have a light natural colour anyway cos its been summer here but its going to be pretty much gone by the wedding - oh well.

Not getting false nails but will have them painted. Thats about it really.

I doubt ill be having anything fake, i will go on a few sunbeds on the weeks leading up to the wedding and will get my hair coloured but i always do that.

I doubt ill be getting fake nails because i cant do anything when i have them on, cant use a phone, type, do shoe laces so its not very practical!! Will probably get a professional manicure though.

I will be having all my own hair as i dont think extensions ever look real.

Yay, I can now feel comfortable with my short hair, pale skin and nibbled nails! Some people I know seem to think that you should have sweeping long hair, get tango-ed and have great talons. I might get some false eyelashes, and I always dye my hair, but other than that I shall be all natural. However I think everything is good in moderation, and it's a case of what suits you. x

    Eugh!

    But,

If you're opposed to fakery, then why are you doing this? Surely you love your stretched holes, or you wouldn't have got them done.

I had fake nails... couldn't not! I had them for years and years so had them again for the wedding. I love them too much.

I had fake flowers too... hehehe! Wooden roses.

i'm opposed to fakery which makes people look totally different from how they do day to day. like having a tango tan and hair down to your backside when usually you're as pale as casper and got short hair or whatever

i do love my flesh tunnels, but often put plugs in when i need to be a bit more "presentable" - job interviews etc. Im putting plugs in on my wedding day, as i want to wear dangly earings

I'm not having any fakery as such but having my make up professionally done + my own nails french manicured (which is mainly for photos) but I would never get false nails/tips done as personally I think they are horrid soz.

Growing my hair but although its v. curly am having it blowdried into waves (as per hair trial pics) as it looks nice.

So like me but a bit posher + groomed.

No fake tan for me - pasty white all the way.
