What happens when...

meggles24, 10 August, 2009 at 13:25 Posted on Planning 0 5

... You are in the ceremony.. i know it seems like a stupid question (espeically being the daughter of a rev!) but i've only been to 3 weddings- all of which were fairly religious as they were in my church!

Mine is still being performed by my dad but i dont think i want it to be as religious- also we are not in a church but in a barn so im not suite sure what will go on.

Do i have hyms? I like the idea of readings and im sure a few people may wanna say a prayer/blessing, but im worried that the service will be really short without any music or anythign other than my dads very humourous service full of embaressing stories of me as a kid!

what are you guys having during your service?

Is the barn a registered place of worship?

I think and I may be wrong but at civil weddings (if thats what your having) you arent allowed hymms or anything religious songs or readings.

We looked at a civil wedding but because I believe in something I the civil route wasnt right for us.

I think if you get married in church it doesnt all have to be religous.

I think you ahve to have one reading and one hymn? We're having 2 readings one religious and one poem and 3 hymns if we're allowed but I lurvee singing!! he he

    Congratulations by the way!

Not sure about legalities but out here in NI we often have religious ceremonies performed by priest or vicar in the venue.....and they have hymns etc. When the registrar performs the ceremony hymns are not allowed. I often do ceremony music and have been called on many times to play hymns in hotels etc.

Its not a registered place but it doesnt matter-

The day before we are doing the legal bit at a registry office so on the big day- my dad is free to do what he likes (he doesn't have the legal part to marry me at the moment as he is between jobs)

So what i really wanna know if how to fill up the time ?

Pals of mine had a religious ceremony at a castle by a retired minster.

They had a harpist, I did a non-religious reading, there were no hymns and it prolly ran at half an hour in total, inc the signing of the register......

Your registry job will be short n sweet and you can have your barn nuptials as long, as wonderful, as short n sweet as you like..... musics a good start, either ask someone to sing or friends to play instruments???? readings can be anything..

    Thanks teehee,

Yeh i know i will have some sort of reading or poems.. Im thinking my dad may be doing a little longer ceremony as he will want to tell lots of stories-(about 75% of the congregation have known me since i was 2!)

I was thinking what to do for music.. I cant think of too many musically gifted friends of mine at this moment- so we'd probably hire someone...

Does anyone know if they cost a bomb??

    Smiley smile

Depends really. Are you beside any Universities or colleges with music courses? You might find a student string quartet who would love to earn some pennies....
