What have you learned about yourself from wedding planning?

What have you learned about yourself from planning a wedding?

I have been talking to my mum a lot more and I noticed how much she tries to micro manage everything I do. I find it annoying and realise that I do the same to my partner. I said to him and he agreed. I have since really tried not to be so controlling. Problem is I always think that my way is the right way!! I thought it would take at least another 10 years before I turned into my mum.

This got me thinking and I thought it might be an interesting discussion, have you noticed anything about yourself from the process?

I have learnt that I can be creative, can keep to a budget (darn... no more excuses) and am also able to stand up to my parents - who typically have very different views to my fiance and I!! x

I learned that there is always a solution for everything.

Erm... I mean where there's a will... LOL

Also, most importantly, I learned to stop judging people by my standards... I always end up disappointed. I was brought up by an incredibly thoughtful mother, and she instilled in me from a very young age respect for others, respect for certain courtesies and for manners.

So I get very disappointed when, for instance, I send someone close a present, or a card and they don't even acknowledge it, or when I email someone with a question to which I need an urgent answer and they don't reply, or when people are sending me messages written in a rush or when angry and taking it out on me - I always end up deleting stuff time and time again even when writing a text, only to make sure that person won't take it the wrong way... Or, when someone lets me down repeatedly saying they'll do something and then at the last minute texting to say, 'oh sorry, can't come now' or 'oh, sorry I am skint now', especially when the meeting was arranged weeks in advance! It is not that I want thanks, or acknowledgement, far from it, it just makes me feel that me and my manners are old-fashioned and that I am thoughtful enough not to do those things to others and always put myself in those people's shoes, and saddens me how ignorant this society is becoming...

Oops - that got a bit deep... LOL

That i'm not wired the same way as most women. I fail to get excited about wedding dresses, flowers etc.

That i'm tight. I refuse to spend large amounts of money on stuff just for one day. I think my OH knew this about me when he said we have no budget. He felt safe knowing I wouldn't go OTT.

That I am not as organised as I thought I was!

That I extremely highly strung - I always knew I was but Ive had some quite impressive moments throughout the planning!

I have no patience whatsoever. Im a bit like a child - I say things when im frustrated that dont make sense & expect people to understand & do what i need done. lol

That I'm totally unflappable under pressure

That my family are not, and they take a huge amount of reassurance to get anything done

That I'm more tolerant of my family flapping than I realised

That I can plan a totally fabulous wedding in just a few months that people are still telling me was the best they've ever been to!!

That I'd really rather just go get married on a beach somewhere with just OH and my family.

That I don't really care if half the people are at my wedding ?

That I'm a little bit wedding obsessed now!!

That I love my OH more than anything.

That too!!! My BMs told me at one point to just "bloody order us around a bit!" as they had enough of my continuous "Whatever you want, girls, I would hate to have mopey BMs because they don't like their dress / shoes / hair / make-up etc"

I am quite lazy but at the same time freaking out about wedding planning...quite an impressive feat really.

I have no ability to stick to a budget.

I thought i was good at speaking my mind, but i'm not as good at that as i believed.

That although I am usually indecisive, I can stick up for myself now and then

That I don't think it was such a good idea to plan a wedding with a lot of other stuff going on in my life as well
