What hymns did you have?

nickelbabe, 7 October, 2010 at 15:26 Posted on Planning 0 3

Just a little post-wedding chat!

What hymns did you have for your wedding and why did you choose them?

We had: Gracious Spirit Holy Ghost (because it is about love)

O Worship the King (because it is a roof-raising hymn, with a cracking descant on the last verse!)

O Praise ye the Lord (because again, it's roof-raising, and it changes on every verse, and sounds brrrrilliant with a choir)

and All my Hope on God is Founded (DH's favourite hymn of all time - we didn't choose mine because it's not a wedding-y hymn!)

We have made a recording (instrumental parts only - no singing) of the hymns that come up the most at the weddings we play at (we have two pianist who are also church organists).

It is free for anybody to have a listen and get some ideas/inspiration - Well Known Hymns

Let me know if I have missed any!!

Hi Nickelbabe, I've not actually made my hymn choices yet so not the most helpful post. I have however decided against having too many soft reflective pieces. I'm going for cheerful grand sounding hymns instead which will fill out the church and make it seem a bit more special. Initially I wanted nice tinkly (sp?) ones but think that with so few people being mass regulars they wouldn't know them. At least with the big hymns the choir and organ can make it sound like lots of people are singing rather than 10 or 20 scattered around.

    xx
