What I achieved this weekend DIY *flash*

DrBuffles, 31 March, 2014 at 16:02 Posted on Planning 0 9

I did this yesterday. Quite chuffed with it. FFIL is constructing it onto to long posts to put into the ground at the entrance to the venue

Next project is the bridesmaid dresses. Thinking I might do a little blog thread of the progress on here as I haven't heard of anyone else making their own BM dresses. Hopefully I will inspire someone to get stitching!

Gorgeous! How did you add the text on!? I really want something like this but shipping is an issue!

    Thank you.

FFIL 'vintaged' the boards for me but that isn't hard and I would have done it myself but he loves a good wood related project!

The text is done by compute in the size/font I wanted. Flip it over (mirror image) then print out to the correct size.

Use baking parchment/greaseproof paper and a nice soft pencil to trace the text (still backwards) then flip over and position onto the wood (now it looks the correct way round). I used magic tape to hold it in place.

The using the pencil trace over the lines of the text again pressing firmly so the pencil on the reverse is transferred onto the wood. Remove the paper and use a black sharpie to fill in the letters. This could be any colour theoretically.

Ta dah, finished. Much easier than it looks. This took me a couple of hours max.

That is brilliant! I'm a DIY snob, so a high accolade!

Flora on here made her own BMs dresses a couple of years ago, but I've not heard of anyone doing it since! Have you designed them yourself or using a pattern? You definately need to flash and do a write up of it.

Thanks ATB. Me too. Not worth doing if it doesn't look like I paid for it! OH calls it 'putting to much pressure on myself!"

A bit of both. I've seen a stye I quite like but it's A,erican and TBH I think I could do a better job of it myself. There isn't enough fabric in the skirt and it looks a bit raggy. So BM is having a take on this. I'll do the patterns myself.

and MOH is having this without the cape! and it will be black and tulle rather than chiffon.

LOVE this, commenting just so I can save this thread. I have a similar sign on my pinterest board for "diy stuff for OH to do after his exam" but I may try and take this on myself now Smiley smile
