what if I get cold?

rambosmum, 10 November, 2014 at 19:52 Posted on Planning 0 14

I'm getting married in December. I get cold really easy and start to feel ill if I remain cold and won't enjoy my day. For the service and photos I can suck it up, my dress is too nice not to. But when I'm eating or mingling I'll feel it. What should I do? I don't think a lace type bolero will be enough and I don't think those fur type stole things will be practical inside to wear for potentially hours. I'm really tempted just to take a hoodie!

Can you get a furry jacket? I had one with short sleeves and a clip to do it up at the front but you get some with longer sleeves. I also contemplated long gloves but wasn't sure they would go over my ring!

Get a cloak, use a handwarmer (charcoal or the gel ones) or have a warm drink such as winter pimms to hold and sip whilst mingling

Get a cape! They're gorgeous. Or a pashmina, they're really good for wrapping round you and easy to slip off for photos. A couple of click hand warmers are a good idea, and cuddles with your new husband will work too! :-)

What sort of dress are you having? For winter weddings a fur-lined cloak or wrap would be lovely or, if you're not having an A-line/princess gown, you can get some gorgeous fur-trimmed coats. If your hands get cold, then a fur muff would look beautiful and be very cosy (since my OH bought me one last Xmas I've stopped bothering with gloves altogether! Lol).

Have you tried your dress on properly yet? I too get cold very easily (my hands are freezing now as I had something cold for lunch!) and I remember thinking when I tried my dress on that I was glad we werent having a summer wedding as I would have been roasting hot. Even the simplistic dress styles are really thick and heavy, you may be warmer than you think?

Also, your venue may have heating?

A big vote here for Cardi's. I spent forever looking for a cardi to go with my dress and then never wore it (and it's still unworn in the wardrobe!)

    And I love these....

What makes you think you will be cold indoors? We visited our venue in Winter and it was nice and warm. Warmer than at home as OH couldn't get his hands on the thermostat to turn it down. Smiley smile

They posted this on another thread which I think is really nice. Don't see why you couldn't get away with that indoors if you get really cold easily.

Or in addition to SW note on cardis what about a pashmina. I have one to put round my shoulders if it gets cold at work. You could get it in white/ivory or your 'theme' colours if you have any.

Or alternatively I highly recommend the menopause for warming you up! Since I went into early menopause I've been positively toasty all the time. Smiley smile

NB - if you get a cashmere pashmina it might seem flimsy but cashmere would keep you really warm. They are deceptive and seem as light as a cheaper polyester pashmina but for warmth it really does make a difference. Wool pashmina's are also warm but tend to be bulkier/heavier.

I'm having a longer fur wrap, but I definitely think pashmina would work (light enough to through off at need) or any of the other options suggested above really. I'm not gonig for a cardi because it wouldn't work with my dress, but definitely doing mulled winter pimms!

    Hi,

If you are not keen on the fur jackets why not get a pretty ivory cardigan

I got the bridesmaids a lovely wool pashmina each. They are actually from Amazon so I got from £60 down to £20.

i have a January wedding and feel the cold but I will either wear one of those (I bought a spare and will keep it upstairs) or wear a hoodie - my wedding my rules lol.

You need to be happy so wear a hoodie if that is what you want.

My cousin got married in Kent in December 2005 and there was snow on the ground. She had a sleeveless dress with a beautiful white fur bolero, (bridesmaids also had them). Yes, she was cold outside having the photos, (it was about 0 degrees!), but due to the excitement and adrenalin she had (and I am sure you will also), she was in no way as cold as us guests with coats on!.

I am sure your photographer will have experience to judge how cold it is on the day and time the photography so you are outside for a minimum period, especially if snow is on the ground!! : ) just let him know your concerns in advance.

The venues are usually very accommodating, of the bride especially, so you can maybe ask them to have a fan heater behind your chair at the meal if you think the room is not warm enough. As I say I am sure once you have had a few welcome drinks and some food you will completely forget about being cold!.

    Have a fantastic day!.
