what is a reasonable price for a photographer??

maryg111, 2 March, 2010 at 21:43 Posted on Planning 0 2

Hi guys - i have reached a stumbling block with my planning!

i have no idea what a good price is for a photographer - i budgeted £700 but am thinking that is totally not going to happen!

went to see one tonight who was fantastic - we got on really well with him, loved his pictures, loved the way he works and he comes highly recommended - but its £950 for the photography with a wedding album, or £1200 with the album (approx 150 pics) and a dvd with 1200 pics on all put on to music....plus we want some pics on the beach at a later date (we are getting married in croydon after originally wanting it in worthing so want some beach pics) and he will include these in the cost....

this actually seems quite reasonable but its £500 over budget (along with everything else, apart from my dress which is under budget...............!)

can anyone recommend any photograpers in croydon or worthing or do you think this is a good deal????

thanks in advance for your help!!!!!!!!

Photographers cannot be determined by cost. Is the quality of end product meeting your requirement that is important.....

although I do appreciate that there are limitations to peoples finances..

If you really liked this photographers work, is it worth losing them and getting a poor substitute that is a couple of hundred pounds cheaper?

Talk to the one you like, tell them your financial limit and see if they can come to some sort of deal compromise......

Do though also quickly look around to see if others actually do what you want in a style even more suited to you...there are hundreds of photographers out there and it is likely that there are several that wll suit you.....If you really liked the original, ask them to hold your date for a few days while you decide...

    Best of luck

Most bridal magazine say the average spending in the UK on wedding photography is around the £1000 mark, which I would say probably close enough. I cant be specific for Croydon, but I would imagine most area's are very similar, as a rough guide wedding photography falls into 3 brackets: low end, mid, high end. The low end is basically your £500 peeps, who the vast majority are Weekend Warriors, or Saturday guys. If its cheapness you are after and you dont really care what the photos will be like then go for one of these. Mid range is around the magazine stated mark, probably £1000 for the photography plus whatever album you wish to add on. Then high end is £3000 plus. When it comes to choosing your wedding photography one of my favourite quotes is from Grace Ormond, WeddingStyleMagazine "The bitterness of poor quality remains long after low pricing is forgotten", its so very true!
