What is the most ridiculous thing you have bought?

Icklefee, 12 July, 2013 at 23:01 Posted on Planning 0 49

I'm hoping I'm not the only one who has spent money on something wedding related then wondered why on earth they purchased it, what have you wasted money on? Thankfully mine was only 100 Martha Stewart laser cut paper hearts... so far!

    Cake boxes.

After already deciding that we weren't going to have a wedding cake ?

I buy things all the time that my OH shakes his head at. They always seem like a good idea at the time.

my OH is a bit baffled by the 600 buttons and 8 rolls of washi tape that have arrived over the last few weeks. They just don't get it. Waiting to see his face when the rolls of bakers twine arrive tomorrow.

Bought FAR too much ribbon that we didn't even use but only paid a quid or two for each roll so didn't waste too much money. I did go to great lengths to pick up a vintage suitcase & wellies that I revamped and didn't use either!

See, now to me that just sounds exciting! All the possibilities! My OH has no vision that's his trouble. He usually likes things in the end, but when 60 meters of burlap arrived and 7KG of clay, he was less than impressed ?

I've had to hide all the empty jars now, just as my collection starts to build he "forgets" and chucks them in the recycling. When I first started saying I was making things he said "it's not like we haven't got enough money". Just as well, buttons aren't cheap!

Hahahahahahah this is a hysterical thread!

I have bought 75 silver wedding cake shaped name place holders - but my placenames are tented. They have to go back. - About £80 worth

I have bought 100m of ribbon that is too thin - about £20

Hideous garter that I no longer like - Gift so unknown

3 pairs of earrings for the BM's which I have also changed my mind on - £60 worth

I have bought a Mr & Mrs sign which I have now decided does not go with my theme - cant remember think about £25

There are a few things which Pinterest has taught me are essential but I think a non-bride might question...including the engraved blue pearl 'something blue' charm engraved with our initials and date, (£40) Bride and Groom hangers, (also about £40)

OMG...it adds up, doesn;t it! If anyone wants to buy any of this then do let me know!

    Love this thread

So far 8 polystyrene balls at £2.00 each to make sweet trees with then changed my mind about sweet trees.

Three pairs of wedding shoes between £30.00 and £50.00 each I only need I pair (kept changing my mind ).

That's it really so not too bad .

The hangers, whilst pointless, I am a little bit in love with and am not emotionally ready to sell yet!

    Here are the pics:

    Like this but says Bride

    Like this but says groom

The letters are 8cm high. I checked the price I paid and it was actually £6.50! Bought it on ebay and they still have them. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mr-and-Mrs-White-Wooden-Sign-Mr-Mrs-Letters-Wedding-or-Home-Decoration-/121057826186?pt=UK_Home_Garden_Celebrations_Occasions_ET&hash=item1c2f9bd58a

You can have mine for free if you want to collect it from me, I work in central london at Blackfriars and live in Wimbledon but at that price I don't think it is even worth posting, you can buy them so cheap! I never even took mine out the wrapper!xxx

I bought a Ted Baker make up bag this week because it matches my theme and it will feel new and special on the day. Sad I know. I must have something more important to be thinking about.

OH doesn't know about it. In my defence though it was half price in the sale and I've been eyeing it up for weeks.

    Loving the bridesmaid dress comments!

I have that Mr & Mrs sign. I've just spent an afternoon in the garden gluing the aforementioned buttons (and my fingers) to them.

The hanger, totally! Thing is, I knew it was something for a single photo, but I neglected to think of the fact that it would never actually hold/show my whole dress:

Not sure my dress will hang properly on it either!

On the subject of hangers, this was going to be my next unnecessary purchase in component form, with the aim of doing it myself. Anyone tried making their own?

Test tubes... Big ugly test tubes of eBay! Thought I'd be able to use them fr wedding favours! Clearly it's been a while since I'd left school so had no idea the size of these things! Urgh just grateful I went for the 'test' purchase and only brought 10!

Far too many favours and decorations!

I keep seeing things I like and then buy it, cos I forget that I've already bought something!

Ridiculous things that people are going to think WTF are: Glittery halloween tattoos and witches cauldrons for our sweet buffet, yes there is a theme, lol

But the things that I actually regret buying are: the 20 extra hurricane vases for tables (was having round, now having long banquet style so only need 6, but were a bargain at the time so bought them over a year ago before deciding layout) + the 26 floral wreaths to go around the base of vases, have now realised I don't need them at all.

As much as I recommend buying things in advance, sometimes it doesn't actually save you money, lol

    My cake topper.

My wedding cost less than £500. £85 of that was my cake topper.

I had 2 guests, so didn't need a big display or anything, BUT, it was a Hello Kitty collectable.

So far nothing I regret Smiley smile

Have made my cake topper, button bouquets and the stationery.

My BM dresses only cost £45 for the 3!

I have a lot of time to mess up though and buy something I regret... ?

I don't think I have bought anything ridiculous, just more excessive amounts!

I have 4 bridesmaids dresses, 3 bridesmaids and 1 dress is the wrong colour, I must ebay it!

I seem to have gone a little overboard in 'acquiring' cake stands and jars for flowers/candles! OH says we have to do a stock take of what we have as it is getting out of hand!

I do now want a bride hanger and trying to find cheap plain dressing gowns for myself and my bridesmaids!

I'm glad I'm not the only one worrying about hangers and dressing gowns and general 'morning of...' stuff. OH really doesn't understand all the bits and bobs.

I've been painting Bride, Maid of Honour etc on some jute bags in a font that matches our invites. Technically pointless and we can do without but it makes me happy.

He keeps asking me what I'm going to put in them. Nothing. But our venue is miles from everyone and we are all staying in cottages the night before. We will need huge amounts of girl c**p and food and bits. I just thought it would be a silly but nice little gift for the maid, and the Mum's and be useful too.
