What is your favourite seaside town UK)?

WickyWack, 30 June, 2014 at 12:32 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 23

We're thinking about having a little break in Aug/Sep, 2 or three nights, via train from Nottingham..

We've decided on a the destination being next to the sea but thats about it!

So, where is your favourite seaside destination?

Depends on what type of seaside holiday I am looking for.

I like Brighton but it can get very busy...

Lots of gorgeous beaches along the Norfolk/Suffolk coast - Southwold? Has the Adnams brewery which the boy loves.

Bournemouth/Sandbanks is a nice sandy beach

Christchurch/Hengistbury Head is lovely too - lots of gorgeous beach huts Smiley smile

A little vote for my home town, Swansea - variety of beaches, all of them sandy, and lots to do in the area! Plus the best icecream I have ever tasted at Joe's.

I also like Robin Hood's Bay (fantastic fish) and Whitby if you fancied a venture northwards, and Weymouth.

Oh and the Isle of Wight.

I really need to get my OH to take me on a UK mini break...

I would recommend Whitby. Scarborough is ridiculously easy to get to from Nottingham and then when u are there Whitby Filey and Bridlington have all got stations so easy to travel around without a car too :-) and quite a short journey could even pop to York too

I'm from Eastbourne and liked it there. But now live in wiltshire and like it here more.

I vote Bournemouth but I've never been to Brighton so maybe that's why I'm not voting for that!

Another vote for Whitby, with a visit to Robin Hood's Bay being a must! [That's where I got married, so slightly biased, lol!]

I'm a seaside kid but I don't think I'd necessarily recommend where I'm from for a 2/3 night break - maybe a day trip Smiley laugh

I saw this yesterday: http://www.stylist.co.uk/travel/top-50-must-visit-holiday-islands-in-the-uk might be of use?

Brighton is great fun as a city but the beach is crap! Who wants to run around/play in the sea on a stony beach?

I like Woolacombe in Devon. Haven't been to much of the South coast apart from Brighton and Portsmouth (also stony). Used to go to Aberdyfi and Shell Island in North Wales a lot as a child but think they might be a bit dull for adults.

If you fancy staying in Robin Hood's Bay, this is where we stayed for the weekend of our wedding and I'd highly recommend it, the staff were fabulous and rooms 1 and 2 have balconies with sea views ;-)
