What is/has been your favourite part of planning?

FutureMrsRon, 5 May, 2011 at 20:28 Posted on Planning 0 22

I'm really enjoying being able to really bring out my geeky side who likes to sit of an evening doing some kind of craft project - I've got a variety of little things to make and do for the wedding and love every minute of it!!!!

What is your favourite part of the planning part, OMs what did you enjoy the most?

As tragic as it sounds, i Smiley heart my budget spreadsheet, I love playing with all the figures, watching my savings mount up and seeing where I've managed to bring things in under budget.

Also, I love sticking pictures in my wedding scrapbook and making it look pretty Smiley smile

I've never been a crafty one but have loved making everything.

Best bit for me has probably been the all the shopping opportunities. I love shopping and now there is a true motive.

I'm enjoying a proper excuse to have lots of lists, ticking things off as I'm doing them, adding things on and ticking them off if I do something not already on the list and compiling lists to a fresh page when there's too many scribbles, (I wouldn't admit any of this in any other circumstances!) x

The best it for me has to have been the first month being engaged and researching all the venues, photographers, dresses, and just generally learning all the wedding stuff! Now all the major stuffs been sorted my excitement has taken a bit of a lull ☹️ I miss those days!!

I also LOVE my spreadsheet. I don't think I could have coped without it. It's all colour coded and has all sorts of formulae in there keeping track of how many overall guests, how many are mine and how many are h2b's, how many have RSVP'd, who has what dietary requirements etc. My budget page of the spreadsheet makes me unhappy though, so I don't look at it much.

I've really enjoyed realising how creative I can be. I'm so proud of myself for the flowers we've made and how genuinely fantastic they look (check out my modesty!). It's also been fantastic to realise that we CAN have a lovely wedding that accurately reflects who we are as people and the shared interests that brought us together and helped us fall in love. Even if that is all science fiction geekery.

I have enjoyed having something fun to focus on. I have also enjoyed receiving the RSVps and messages from people saying that they are coming. Also, i've enjoyed spending money without feeling guilty!

    ?

I do this too! Haven't started many wedding lists, but the first thing on ANY list should be "compile list", so when you get to the end, it gets a big fat TICK without doing anything else on it!

I love my spreadsheet too, so glad I'm not alone! I have a column for estimated cost, a column for actual cost, one for amount paid so far and one for amount still to pay. I LOVE it! Especially when things come in under budget and I can see straight away when the total figure goes down and where we have more money to play with. Never knew I would be this enthusiastic about Excel ?

I do like the creative crafty stuff too although sometimes there seems to be so much of it still to do it's a bit overwhelming. But I'm really proud of the fact that I've designed all the stationery myself and it doesn't look crap. Plus I made a postbox out of the box that our office's printer paper came in, which was possibly my finest hour!

I have actually really liked negotiating with the suppliers. I have not taken the first price for anything and even got my flowers down from £445 to £262 :-) Great sense of achievment!

I have loved loads of things...

My spreadsheet - I am known as "Excel Queen" at work and the first thing they asked when I got engaged was "where's the spreadsheet?". I think I must have emailed a copy to about 30 girls on here, I should have licenced it and made a few pennies!!!!!

Having something that I could get my sister involved in, she never really goes out much and loved the girly nights we had trying out make-up and stuff - I have vowed to take her to more places and dress her up!

Being crafty!!! This has stuck with me and I have mentally designed about 8 wedding stationery sets in my head... they are awesome!!!

Apart from paying out lots of money, there wasn't really anything I didn't like!!

You really should have licensed it, you're right, it's ace!! I don't know where I'd be without it, so I have a lot to thank you for!

So far, I have enjoyed looking for our venue the most, I loved going round and looking at all the beautiful places together with H2B. I'm a list type person too, so I'm enjoying that and making stationary prototypes...everything really! I just love planning in general! Smiley smile

Me & my mum have grown closer - we argued like cat & dog when I lived at home, got closer when I moved out (ie space & I appreciated her so much more!) and the wedding plannin has been fab - girlie days out, wedding fairs, pouring over wedding mags together (I LOVE sitting down to a wedding mag & a highlights hot chocolate)! I'll still be buying the mags after cause I'm gonna send our pics in to all the local ones Lol.

I know this sounds silly but I'm just so pleased with my savings! It's a) a completely different picture to how I was 5yrs ago and b) shows that I can save if I put my mind to it!

I am a virgo and lists are my life. The best part of my planning has been visualising my scheme and piece by piece making it happen from the suppliers to the poundland bargains. The suspense at seeing it all in place in 13 months time is a killer !!
