what kind of car do you have?

pink & glitz, 27 September, 2015 at 15:13 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 21

I currently have a fiesta zetec which I bought brand new 3 years ago under the Ford leasing deal, costing me £250 a month. Now I have changed jobs I am not prepared to buy another brand new car, I have colleagues in my car and use it for work at least 7 hours a day.

Is your car reliable / safe / good on fuel etc??????

Looking for ideas!

Thanks Smiley smile))))

Are you looking for something of a similar size to a Fiesta? I drive a lot of different cars as part of my job and for me, the Fiesta is by far the best of the smaller ones. The only others that come close are the Hyundai i20 or Toyota Yaris which are both supposed to be very reliable. Those three feel a lot more sturdy and safer than a lot of small cars. I have a Micra myself and it's not the nicest car to drive but it's good on fuel consumption and I haven't had a single problem with it.

Yes I do love the fiesta but feel £250 a month is a lot for a car to use as part of my work. I had the old style before so I may go back to one of those x

What job do you do if you don't mind me asking??? Smiley smile

I have a Renault megane dymanique Tom Tom 1..5 diesel engine and I have to say it's the most economical drive it's around 80mpg on a motorway drive. So comfortable and the steering is excellent imo (sounds daft but I used to have a ds3 convertible and it was hard to turn into a space)

I currently drive a Clio and she's a wee trooper. I've done 30,000 miles in 18 months and she hasn't needed any major repairs (although the MOT is due again in October!) For a small car there's a lot of space in the back seat and the boot is quite big. I've got a petrol and I filled the tank once every four days to do about 400 miles.

By far the best car I've ever had though was my Ford Focus. It's huge inside but doesn't feel it when you're driving. I had it for when my daughter was born and we got prams and car seats and all kinds of baby stuff in it with no drama. I was filling my tank every 10 days for 500(isn) miles. He was also pretty cheap to repair when things went wrong - which to be fair wasn't often. It was a 1.9 as well so it drove like a beast. I miss that car Smiley sad

    I've got a focus titanium x 13 plate.

However, I don't really like it though. My recommendation would be a golf. I had a fairly bog standard 1.6 tdi no bells and whistles and it was great. It did 110000 miles in 3 years with only one short stay in the garage for something minor.

We've got a Citroen C3 diesel. Not an obvious choice, but it's reliable, good on fuel, pretty quick off the mark, free road tax, and hasn't been that expensive to own. You can probably get a second hand one at a good price, and they have an awesome panoramic windscreen! :-)

I've got a Toyota Yaris and have had it for about 7 years. It's regularly serviced by Toyota on their service plan which includes the cost of the MOT for £15 per month. It's never not started,(is that English?) never let me down and, apart from new tyres, bulbs, and one battery, everything is still the original from new. Me and hubby take it in turns to have a new car and it's my turn next and I'm fancying an Audi A1 but I'm really reluctant to let my Yaris go and may decide to keep it for a while yet. It averages 54 mpg so very economical too.

I have a 10yr old Suzuki Alto, and if the newer ones are the same, I'd recommend a test drive. She's only had 1 problem that wasn't my fault, £30 to fill up, and £30 road tax, but I think the newer models are band A/B, and rarely have to fill her up. She is a small car, so probably smaller than you are thinking, 4 seats as opposed to 5, and a bit lightweight, but very nippy as a result. I did test drive a Hyundai I20, and for that size it was a very nice drive, also drove the Mazda 2, and I wouldn't recommend it.

I have a fiesta at the moment and can't wait to change it! I used to drive a top spec seat ibiza and I loved that car, I think that's what I'll go back to next summer when I finish paying this one off!

Ive got a 2010 1.4 corsa SRI, i have to say i hated it when i first brought it home but 3 years later, ive grown to love it. i have to say its the best car ive owned (probably not hard when my first car was a fiat Cinquecento ? )

My OH has a fiesta titanium 1.6, his car is more ecomonical than mine is, but its an ecotec so he doesnt pay tax on it.

My friend has a 1.2 polo which she loves but she doesnt drive it much. she had it from brand new 3 years ago and im sure its not even done 10k miles yet Smiley smile

Ive never bought a brand new cars and ive never had any major issues with any of my cars that isnt down to simple wear and tear Smiley smile

    I have a 15 plate Toyota Aygo.

My poor old Punto gave up earlier in March and I needed a good reliable car that was economical as I work is the next city over which is about a 45 mins commute and also frequently drive to see OH family which for a round Journey is 200 miles. I’ve had a Toyota before and that car kept going.

My little Aygo is amazing! She’s nippy for being under a 1 litre and only costs me about £20 if that (depending on fuel costs at the time) to go see OH family. I don’t have any tax and got one year free insurance with Toyota.

She is a little small so people in the back can be a little squished, sadly I don’t think about that as I’m never in the back, always driving hehe.

I have a ford focus cmax 2.0 turbo diesel. Mummy racer we call it. It really goes and I can fit so much stuff in it! car seat x 2, prams x2 and a full food shop once! It's so spacious but I can still throw it into a smallish parking space easily. No major issues with it and we would certainly have the same again.

I have just this weekend chopped my 57 plate 1.2 micra ( which I loved) for a brand new Hyundai i10 1.2. It's. It's not the most engaging drive but it only need something to pootle about in.

I've got an Alfa Romeo Giullietta cloverleaf. It's the most unreliable car in the world and certainly reinforces the bad reputation Alfa have tried so hard to shake.

I would never advise anyone to have an Alfa. I was brought up with Italian cars and it's all I've ever driven so can't bear the thought of having anything else.

I drive a lot of different cars with work and my views on the following:

Ford Fiesta: nice drive, not great with my bad back
Vauxhall Astra: overrated! Brand new and brakes locked on while driving on motorway
    Hyundai i10: loved this!
Ford Focus: best car I've ever driven!
Hyundai i30: really liked this, great handling
Renault scenic: basically a van, great for getting stuff in!
Citroen ds3: most terrifying thing I've ever driven on a motorway ? and I do upwards of 1000 miles a week! Terrible handling.
Audi Q3: beautiful, but would never buy one. Completely overpriced and wasn't impressed with having to put pigs wee in it!
Peugeot 308 (I think, I get confused with the numbers!): this was terrible got my back

I've just ordered a Hyundai i30, so excited to get it! Lovely drive and lots of gizmos, gadgets and 5 star ncap rating ?

Toyota Camry which is decent for long distance driving in the country. Turning radius is shocking though.
