What one thing are you doing to make your wedding stand out of the crowd?

OK - happy thread time!

What one thing are you doing to make your wedding different (if anything!) or really special to you? I would be really interested to hear what everyone is doing (if you don't mind giving your secrets away!).

We are having a really modern reading in the church ceremony that will make a lot of people laugh and we're serving cheese and chips as part of the wedding buffet!

We're having a local folk singer/songwriter at the reception, he's very 'Yorkshire' and his songs are about local places, he's very entertaining and we love his music.

We plan to have a 3 tier pork pie cake to serve alongside the buffet too!

Nothing too unusual but it is being held on an island, does that count?!

OMG that pie is wicked!! could eat the whole lot myself..

I'm having a nordic tipi instead of a marquee, its also got an open fire in the middle of it and has a real glastonbury feel, so hoping it'll be a bit different

There's nothing to stop you from having a pork pie cake (or your cheesey chips) and serving up the pieces in Greggs paper bags (I'm sure the shop would let you buy some)...how brilliant would that be, then he'll really get a bit of Greggs at the wedding!

We had a gospel choir to make it a joyful occasion. Everybody loved them and were singing along.

Nothing. We're having a traditional church wedding, sit down meal at a hotel and evening disco with a buffet. A traditional dress for me, suits for the boys, no themes, no games, no magic.

Actually, maybe that does make it different ?

I guess I should have changed the thread title to - what will make your day special to you (other than the obvious!)

    Hmmm what makes ours different.......

well, the band will play glenn miller as well as contemp stuff... I'm trying to organise a Spitfire to do a flyover when we are outside the church...my parents might even speak to one another...and our going away outfits will also be of the 40s era; dress for me and a 3 piece suit for him.....

Nothing particularly different, but we are having a Humanist celebrant, so that should be good, means our service will be completely unique!

I am going to the church in a campervan......ok, lots of people now do this....but what makes it different and special is that we are not hiring one for the day, she is our campervan called Bella. She is having a restoration next year and will be all shiny and a new colour by the wedding. This is her now.

Nothing unique for us either. Church ceremony, sit down meal for about 35 then evening buffet at about 7.30. I guess the only different thing is that there is a gap between the daytime stuff and evening and that the daytime and evening meals are being held at different places.

We gave out glow sticks at our evening reception whilst playing dance music and drum and base.

I'll forever have the image in my head of my mum dancing with a glow stick to pendulum! ?

We got married in the registry office in the morning with only close family & our attendants then one of the best men conducted a humanist ceremony that we wrote ourselves at our venue and almost no one guessed it wasn't real until we told them!

Also our venue was a castle, we borrowed a friend's Ferrari as the wedding car and my Mum gave me away.

I'm having a small choir singing Christmas carols/anthems as the guests arrive at the reception venue. Other than that my dress is rather different as is my black and red colour scheme mingled with snowflakes lol

Everything we did on our day reflected us as a couple. We didn't have anything so amazing that it stood out from the crowd, but we did little things like had hand crafted favours from Thailand made by local people who were specifically taught skills to help them make a living rather than end up on the street begging.

I couldn't put my finger on one thing at all, but everyone said how lovely our wedding was and how they could see we'd thought about how to include everyone and make them enjoy themselves.

We got married abroad, which I know isnt unusual, but we were the first to do it in both families and we love Greece so got married there. We added a lot of extras to our package such as a champagne boat cruise for everyone after the ceremony and had 2 greek musicians meet us after at the jetty and walk us through the village to our reception. People were coming out of bars and restaurants and standing on their balconies watching and clapping. It was really weird, but nice. The musicians then formed a band in the evening with a female singer which was fab and they got us all up doing some greek dancing. We didnt tell anyone what we had planned except for the boat (in case anyone had motion sickness) so it was a big thing for everyone. They especially loved the musicians walking us to the venue as we had 40 guests and it was like a parade, and being around 8pm the village was buzzing.

We also used local produce as favours, minature ouzos for the men and olive soaps with evil eye charms (for good luck) for the ladies.

We're having a harpist for the wedding ceremony too! We're also having a singing pianist for the wedding breakfast and he brings a white baby grand piano with him and also sings in Spanish, so my side of the family will feel right at home!

We're also having fireworks, which is not to everyone's taste but I've always dreamt of having fireworks at my wedding so it's a must have, and also a contact magician for the evening!

I just want everyone to have fun and to be kept entertained throughout!

Nothing that special but as our colour scheme is black and white - and our hotel is very modern and architecturally unusual, I think our wedding will just be a little *different*. I am also going for a 1920's/art deco theme a bit too.

The hotel is the most expensive bit, but its not like anywhere else and it looks out onto Cardiff Bay! Hopefully we'll have a beautiful sunset too.

Plus am hoping to use slightly more alternative music (as some of you know)

I like it - and its unique to us.
