What photo booth would you prefer?

LondonWeddingDecor, 21 May, 2012 at 10:57 Posted on Planning 0 9

Good morning all,

Firstly I hope this post does not break any Hitched rules, we are just trying to receive some feedback from an idea!

We are thinking about adding a photo booth to our decor services, now I know a booth is not "decor" but we often get asked do we know any suppliers so our question is..

You decide you're going to hire a photo booth for your wedding, would you prefer the typical closed booth style which limits the amount of people who can get into the shot due to space limitations or would you rather an open setup (the camera and screen sealed in a decorated case, a backdrop and props) which allows more people to get into the photos but all your guests could see what poses you are pulling as there would be no privacy curtain.

Many thanks in advanced and once again I hope this does not break any rules!

Linda xx

This. You shouldn't be pulling inappropriate poses. And if you want some kind of secret message for the bride and groom, you can just wait until they can't see you.

    Hi Linda,

I run an open type and both have their advantages and disadvantages.

The open type takes up more space (3 x 3 metre footprint if done correctly) but can fit more people. The results are miles better too as the light is more evenly distributed and professionaly lit.

The downside is it really needs to be manned at all times whereas a box type doesn't...but if the photographer is there in person they can suggest ideas and things to get the best out of the shots taken.

Printing is something that can be integrated into the box type however for me personally, I prefer the large one. The images are much much better and I get the chance to edit them to look their best before delivering them to the couple.

Photo booths generally have a very limited lifespan. The one I do have is set up during the wedding breakfast, everyone bundles in after speeches and it's a nice filler before the first dance. Interest in them wanes quickly. I had a 21st birthday party when there was 150 people and they were back at the bar in 45 minutes.

I've seen couples spend £600 on a sussex photo booth or similar (sorry, typo, Sussex couples) and it sits there all day mostly unused but I charge £100 for mine when I do the wedding too.

Thank you both for your replies, after having a good think we came to the conclusion that an open style would be a better option, I also asked this question on my personal FB page and the majority of my replies were they'd prefer the booth style as "one of the most fun factors about photo booths is trying to squeeze as many people in the booth as possible" so I think I'll need to ask some more people!

I lean toward the open booth, don't really know why I think I like the social aspect of everyone seeing and being able to jump in. My photographer does one which was handy as much as I wanted one I didnt want to pay loads for it Smiley smile

The closed booth is more aesthetically pleasing to the eye but less interactive.

    Overloading a booth, breaks booths!

Personally I prefer the closed booth which is what I've gone for. I like the idea that people get to take away their photos straight away as a souvenier and it doesn't have to be manned at all times like an open booth. When I was looking around at prices I did have a look at the open style booths but just didn't think they were for me. I think there's also more of a fun aspect to the actual booth where as an open set up can just be like normal photos - if that makes sense? x

Thank you for your replies. I'd like to clarify that the open booth system would be an automated system which prints the photos straight away. The only thing that would be different is the curtain which usually covers the people in the booth wouldn't be there.

I'd opt an open booth , preferably in a quiet location where you get still get a reasonable amount of privacy as I think this would be more encouraging to many guests.

I saw both at a wedding fair earlier this year. I thought the open was softer and friendlier. I guess it depends on your guests. We are having an open one which will be manned and they get to take the pics away plus we get a copy ?
