What shall I wear? *BT ref*

pandorasbox, 22 February, 2014 at 09:38 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 11

My friends' enGAYgement party is coming up (their emphasis!) and I have no idea what to wear. They're going with a rainbow theme. My first thought was to go classy, black dress, bright accessories. Then H pointed out it is in the dingy cosy function room of a bar where one of them works, and all their mates are pretty casual so a nice dress and heels might be a bit OTT, especially if the other ladies aren't also dressing up-up. The dress I thought I would wear is this but I think it actually looks far too elegant on for a casual party if nobody else is dressed up:

Also - mini announcement for OTers not on fb - I will be about 13 weeks pregnant by then. No idea if I will have a bit of a bump or not. I assume a dress will skim a bit better over any bump but the dress above looks stupid with my flats. Likelihood is I will be far too knackered to be wearing high heels the full night, since I don't do well in them anyway!

So... do I find a more casual dress that would look OK with flats? If so, what? Or skinnies (stretchy) with a flowing sort of tunic style top?

Restrictions: Have put on weight so am a heavy 14-16 at the mo and don't want anything too tight fitting, so all those tube skirts and dresses are out. I always get midi dresses as I'm so tall any other length ends up a mini on me and I don't want to flash too much leg. Am concious of lower half so always choose long line tops when possible. Needs to look fine with flat shoes.

Flash or link me your outfit ideas please savvy and fashionable Otters.

First of all congratulations. I think this dress is perfect you can dress it down with the shoes and accessories. At 13 weeks you will be showing so you might feel bloated especially at night so the fact that it flows over your belly will be great. Think more of comfort I know I did.

    Eek congratulations PB!

If it were me I'd go for skinnies and a top. I tried some of those Dorothy perkins jeggingd on the other day and they are stretchy and soft so might be morr comfortable?

    Congratulations PB ?

I think that the dress is lovely and personally, I would prefer to be over-dressed than under-dressed. If I were you, I would wear heels and sit down if I needed to! If you think that the dress is a no-no though, then skinnies sound good. You could wear some sparkly ballet pumps with them.

I agree with Holey - I'd wear skinny jeans, a nice top and some smart ballet flats.

The Dotty P Eden jeggings are indeed very nice.

    Thanks ladies!

I have some of the DP jeggings in Tall but unfortunately they are already digging into my bloated belly. I have some supersoft Topshop skinnies in either indigo or faded black, so I think I will look for some nice tunics or mini dresses I coud wear as a tunic to go over the top. At least I know my sparkly flats will go fine with those.
