what size are you?

chicken82, 8 September, 2008 at 22:35 Posted on Planning 0 27

.......what size are you in comparisan to the size dress you have ordered/bought?

I dieted hard to get down to a 12 at the end of last year. But when i was measured for my dress i came out as a 10 for boobs, 14 for waist and 12 for hips - how mis matched am i? the dress size they ordered me was a 16, and will need taking in a bit. its a trudy lee. i was just wondering if you have had your dress ordered at a totally different size you are than on the high street?

Hey there!! I was freaking out after trying on my first dresses at the weekend. I am normally a 16 - 18 but the dress that fir was a 28!!!!!! yes a 28!!!!! I couln't believe it!! I do not own anything over a 20! I was soooo upset!! but lots of people on here assured me it was okay and that wedding dresses are made smaller. Also one very clever lady pointed out that the dress has many layers so while the outside of a size 12 dress may be a 12 the inside will be smaller due to the layers so you need to go up sizes!

Also they did point out to me that noone else will know the size....as long as it fits...who cares!!

Bridal sizes are way different from high street!

I'm a high street size 14 bottom and 16 top.

My wedding dress was a US size 16 (so approx a UK 20!). As far as i'm aware the dress is ordered to accomodate your biggest area (in my case, my bust) and altered to fit.

It's only a number at the end of the day, didn't bother me in the slightest as I'd been reassured from other threads on here than bridal dress sizes are so different.

    Hi there,

I am normally a size 14 on my top and size 16 on my bottom and my dress is a size 16 from Maggie Sottero. I had my last fitting a couple of weeks back and it fitted like a dream. I just hope it still does on Saturday as I feel like I have put a few pounds on since then, probably stress related!!!

That said, my bridesmaid who is normally a size 18, ordered a 20 which didint fit so she has had to go up again to a 22! It doesn't do much for your confidence when you have to go two sizes bigger than normal, does it?

Before trying on dresses I toned up a bit to get back into my size 10 trousers as I was just a bit to comfy in my size 12s I always see to gop from size 10 -12 so I ordered the dress in a 10!

I just hope I can get into it ?

I am an 8 on top and 10 or 12 (depending on the shop) on the bottom. My dress was tailor made so fortunately didn't have a size, although I did have the skinny Thai woman fitting me to contend with ?

My dress is from the high street - got a size 12 as a 10 wouldn't go round my back - waist is being taken in. I have major problems finding stuff to fit though in general - size 10 waist, size 12-14 across shoulders and size 12 at the top of my arms!! I have big shoulders and back muscles from lugging things round the farm in my teens and rock climbing. I dread job interviews simply because a blouse doesn't fit me (really baggy round the waist and hips in order to accomodate my arms) and once my jacket is on I can't lift my arms!

    Hiya,

I am currently a size 22 and the dress I have bought is a size 20. It is currently to big on the bust area and to small on the waist/hips. I have been told like eveyone has said wedding dresses size different. I want to lose about 3 to 3 1/2 stone prior to next year so cross fingers I will be a size 16 which means the dress will fit me. Back on diet lost 3lb already hurray!?

I'm usually 12/14 on the bottom and 18 on top.

My dress is a 14 and I probably need to lose about a stome to get into it. Still I have plenty of time!!

On the high street im a size 16 up top and an 18 down bottom. I would love to lose some more weight but after losing 9st I am happy that I can fit into a size 16 ?

The dress i tried on in the shop was a 14 and was tight but the shop assistant said i will fit in a size 16 so am very happy bout that as i did expect to have to get a size bigger.

We will all look beautiful on our days, theres no doubt

I am a size 18/20 normally but my dress was a size 24. Needed it for my big bum but was huge gaps at the bust. had it fitted and now perfect, ready for the wedding in 3 weeks. But it didnt worry me about the size, im not going to flash the label about!

My 10 year old son said to me when he walked into the fitting, oh mum you look like a princess - i was delighted. Then he added, but where have your fat bits gone to......Yipee i know the dress is perfect!!!

When i bought my dress i was wearing a size 22. The shop owner recommended i order a 26 but i said as i was doing WW i wanted to order a 24 to give me the motivation to keep going.

I dieted and got into a size 20 normal clothes and my dress was just a little bit tight when it came so i had the seams let out a little bit, not that you'd have known though.

I let the ladies in the shop measure me, and told them to just order whichever size was necessary - I don't know what size it is and I don't care, as I know it will be altered a lot to fit my shape. I'm sure it's probably a few sizes up from my normal 20 to accomodate my ❤️❤️ and my massive bum!

I'm a 10/12 on the high street, mostly a 10 these days and my wedding dress is a size 10 and needs taking in a little bit - so I've had the opposite experience! I was expecting to have to order a bigger size though so it was a nice surprise ?

I am a 10/12 on high street, my Boobs make me a 12 in all my tops/shirts etc

I bought my dress 2nd hand and was told it was a size 8 UK (which is manageable for 2 years weight loss and toning) but when I looked at the dress the label says size 6..... ? its a maggie sottero, does this mean that its a US size 6 ie a UK size 10?

I am really worried that my dress might be a UK size 6- it really doesnt look that small and I held it up to me in the mirror this morning and it looked much bigger than a size 6 ??!!!???!!

I cheated Jelly and i would do it again.

After doing every diet you could possibly think of, my doctor advised me to have surgery so went to Taunton my local bariactric surgery hospital got all the info and decided to go for it, I had it done April 2007 and have lost 9st 3lb, i now weigh 14st exactly, i would love to get lower but im happy just the way i am. I always said to my partner if i lose weight i want to get married just to give me something to aim for and now i have lost all the weight we are getting married next year and i cant wait. ?

I am very lucky to have had the surgery and would do it all over again.
