What 'special touches' are you having?

Tinkers1, 2 September, 2011 at 15:58 Posted on Planning 0 44

Im thinking of doing a flip flop basket and toiletries basket in the ladies and mens rooms (toiletries but not flip flops for the men!). Just wandered what other things people are doing, if any?

For dancing - if people want to take off their shoes...but without getting their feet dirty etc

Absolutely. I have no idea where this current trend of basically babysitting your guests all day and thinking of everything that they ought to be thinking of started, but I am glad that we haven't fallen for it.

I dont know how 'special' my things were but these were my 'quirky' things:

individual cards & pink pens (to match bm's) for guests to write well wished & 'post' in our postbox instead of a guest book (far too many people just sit & read what everyone else writes!)

sweetie table with personalised sweetie bags

    grooms cake

    And a father daughter dance.

Its all these things that make the day 'YOURS' IMO.

I think America is the short answer AJ. I too think flipflop baskets are a silly idea. Does no one else find flip flops hard to dance in? i'd rather dance barefoot.

What exactly does 'special touches' mean anyway? We're paying for them to have two meals, a glass of the best champagne, a glass of pimms, sweets and entertainment. And they're all getting a rubber duck to take home too.

*nods* Any form of backless shoe and I almost certainly end up with a broken something.

Yep. Flip flops shouldn't be seen anywhere near anything formal. But that's just my opinion.

Well each to their own - if people have the money in their budget and want to spend it that way, then its their decision. Personally I will be doing something similar.

nothing against it if thats what you want to do Tray. But would people even wear them? I just think its hospitality gone a little bit too far.

Absolutely. I'm not saying people shouldn't. I'm just saying *I* think it's daft. If we all had the same opinions though, it'd be a very boring world.

I must admit that if I heard anyone say "well that was a crappy wedding as they didn't supply flipflops for us to dance in" about our day I would probably cease all contact with them for being so picky and pathetic.

It may be all well and good to put in these little touches that we feel are important but honestly, who would notice them if they weren't actually there?

AJ, I dont think people would think my wedding was 'crap' if I didnt do this, this is just a nice touch that I think alot of ladies would appreciate. Also alot of ladis cant fit deoderant or perfume in their bags and would like to freshen up so I think its nice to put these in the toilets too.

Not flip flops, but we're thinking of doing a basket of pashminas in the wedding colours for female guests. Reason being, it will be late September, maybe chilly outside. Although the invitation will say the reception is indoors, once the ceilidh starts the non dancers will probably be outside since it's a small-ish barn. We have an extra gazebo sorted, but some people may not have taken into account they may be milling in a courtyard at times.

Surely then just use a bigger bag is the sensible solution? Or wear something with pockets, after all that's what they were designed for.

As we don't have exclusive use of the venue, there's no point putting stuff like that in the toilets anyway even if we wanted to.

Im sorry but that is just a typical male thing to say, ask your B2B if she'll stick can of deoderant in her pocket! Haha!

I love the flip flop idea, and the toiletries idea!

We are having personal messages to each guest in their favours - it will read along the lines of "We love you for your..........................." or "We think you are special because....................." The reason behind this is that each person who is at our wedding is there because we love them and want them there - so we want to tell them what we think of them :-)

Never heard of the flip flop idea before personally i'm not a fan of them, I would rather dance in bare foot.

Only special touches I can think of that we're having are a kiddies corner with a few toys and activites for them to do and some really cheesy photo boards of me and h2b growing up! x

I am not sure about 'special' but we are having a variety of postcards laid out rather than a guest book, and a mini red Royal Mail postbox for guests to 'send' the cards. I am v chuffed about this, since we met at our local PO!

We wanted some kind of fire eater type thing, as fireworks not permitted, and I was going to get a work colleague to do charactures as he is an amateur cartoonist. But TBH the more I think about it, the more I feel like its just hundreds of pounds down the drain to 'entertain' people. For me, the dance, drink, music and seeing old friends and family is enough entertainment at a wedding reception. And for me every moment will be special, and if any of our guests dare say they are bored without acrobats, ponies, clowns or whatever they can b*gger off!

I was thinking about a toiletries basket, but i dont think i will have the budget to splash out on a variety of nice perfumes to be honest! But i think that is a nice touch definatley!

I LOVE the post boxes!!! I deffo think that will make people leave more personal messages!!! I think i will have to jump on that bandwagon!
