What Spirits?

Knees, 20 June, 2012 at 11:03 Posted on Planning 0 17

Our per head package includes unlimited beer, wine, sparkling wine and soft drinks. We can either supply our own spirits, have our guests pay, or pay ourselves per drink. We thought it'd be cheaper to supply our own.

What would your/your OH's preferred spirit be? Bear in mind that Australia's alcohol rules are very strict, so they will only serve spirits on the rocks (singles) or with a mixer, so no shots.

I thought vodka and gin and then perhaps a whisky or a brandy as we have a few middle aged men coming!

Also just thinking in terms of quantities, would your OH's be happy to stick with the beer or would they go on to spirits?

    GIN!!!!! For me.

H would probably have a couple of straight malt whiskies towards the end of the night but other than that he'd stay on beer.

How many guests do you have?

One 70cl bottle of spirit will get you 28 25ml servings, so if you average four of those per person, one bottle will do 7 people (roughly)

If you're paying for wine and beer, could you have guests pay for spirits if they want them? Or is that not the done thing in Oz?

Edited to actually answer your question; As long as there is gin, I'd be happy. And most people will drink vodka. I know a few guys who like to move on Jack Daniel's after a few beers though.

Bizarrely I was just thinking this morning that I should post a thread on the very same topic!

We're similar to you in that wine, prosecco, soft drinks and grappa are all included in our package. I know a lot of the guys prefer to drink beer though, so we'll be supplying that, as well as some spirits as a lot of people prefer to move on to those after wine.

I think a fair few guys would switch from beer to spirits later on, especially after a big meal.

I think you'd have everyone pretty well covered with vodka, rum, gin and whiskey (maybe one for mixing and a single malt).

This is an option, but seeing as our guests will have spent so much to come out to join us, I don't really want them to have to pay for their drinks on the wedding day (they'll be paying for food and drinks the night before, at our hen/stag party etc so that day I really want to treat them). I'm still waiting to hear from the venue as to whether we can mix it a bit, e.g. if we supply the basic gin, vodka, rum etc, whether they can then give us a tab for the more obscure stuff.

Ah, I see, sorry, I didn't know they were all travelling over. How awesome.

In that case, how about doing; vodka, gin, a whiskey of some sort? And this of course ?....

Gin for me too. OH would do beer until he fancied JD and coke but if that wasn't available he would be happy to stick to lager I reckon

Bleurgh! I can't even look at the bottle - I spent a year at uni in Germany where it cost 1 Deutsch Mark a shot (about 30p!) Might leave that off our list!

Mr C would drink Bacardi after a night on the beers.

I think vodka is a safe bet. I'd drink vodka or Pimms, or just stick with wine and my OH would have a bourbon or whiskey.

    Gin is ?

We are supplying our own - I was going to go with lots of Vodka and Gin and Rum. And then pick up one or two bottles of others if I see good offers maybe southern comfort or barcardi.

I did start a list of what my friends drink when we are out - not going to supply it all but did make me think about other thinks a bit Smiley smile

I think whatever spirit you offer people are going to drink!

My parents are Polish so vodka is on tap at my wedding, most of OH's family have said they couldnt drink vodka all day but in secret they have all told me how much they're looking forward to it!!

Cant go wrong with the basics: vodka, gin, rum, whisky

We supplied our own free bar and in terms of spirits we provided:

Vodka (4 bottles), gin (2 bottles), whiskey (1 x bottle of a good malt and 1 x bottle of jack daniels), midori (1 x bottle), archers (1 x bottle), bacardi (1 x bottle) and dark rum.

We ran out of vodka, whiskey (very early on and should have probably had at least another bottle), archers and bacardi. But I do think it really depends on your guests and what they normally drink. This was for 100 day guests and 150 at night.
