What to clean a handbag with?

claireac, 14 August, 2009 at 13:00 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 1

I have a lovely soft purple leather bag that dh bought. Unfortunately it's looking a bit battered and has a few marks on it. I really don't know what to you use to clean it with, any ideas please?

I recently used toothpaste (a proper paste one, not gel) on scuffs on a pair of pale camel coloured leather shoes and they came up a treat. I was really sceptical (found the hint on the Yahoo question page thing) and didn't try it for ages but got desperate and gave it a go and was really impressed. Have done it again since wearing them since and it's worked again.

I smeared the toothpaste on using my finger and then wiped off with some tissue. Obviously try it on a small area that wont notice too much just in case it doesn't work.

    Ah now that's interesting.

Last night I managed to stupidly burn myself quite badly with steam. Took something out of the microwave and didn't wear oven-gloves when I took the lid off, and my fingers got in the way.

I sat with them in iced water for about 2 hours - no joke - they were that bad.

Still stung when I was going to bed, so googled to see if there were any home remedies to take the edge off, and toothpaste cream was a suggestion to draw the heat out. So before I went to bed I smeared both fingers with toothpaste and went to bed, careful not to touch anything.

Woke up to encrusted fingers, but much better! Still red, still swollen, but not nearly as painful. Good tip if anyone burns themselves!

Obviously toothpaste has more uses than just cleaning teeth! ?
