What to do first?

Feather, 14 January, 2011 at 15:57 Posted on Planning 0 10

Hi Everyone

We are planning on getting married in December 2012.

With so long to go until then, Im unsure what do now if anything?

Im going to look at a few different venues open days in the coming weeks, but apart from that Im not sure. Ive started to look at different ideas on the internet and take inspiration from you ladies....but that it.

Any ideas of what i can do, should do, not do etc etc

thank you ?

    Hello and congratulations!

My advice would be not to rush.. I did and ended up with nothing to do and months to go which is driving me mad lol

Venues for ceremony and evening are a must ASAP as you wouldnt believe how quickly things get booked

I would also think if you have a particular car in mind to look at putting deposit down..

    hope this helps

The first thing I did as well as looking at venues was to "look" at colours/themes and then I think other things then slot into place, if that makes sense?

    Thank you MrsKeating2B

I did say to H that we should go looking at venue etc to get an idea of all the different packages and costs so we know if we are on target with savings etc. Plus we can get something booked and deposits paid in the next few months when we find the one.

We are looking at doing everything at one location for ease, as we have all OH's family travelling down from Scotland to the Midlands, as it would be so much easier for them.

    Hi and weclome ?

I would say venue is the obvious priority at this stage.

'Looking' for ideas is definitely good to do at this stage. It's easy to spend hours browsing the internet or magazines for ideas, inspiration, suppliers etc. Rip out the things you see that you like from mags or bookmark pages on the net. It is good to do this bit while you have no pressure on you for time. I did it in the early stages and I am so glad I did because when it came round to actually needing to book or buy something I already had something to refer to.

And if your chosen suppliers are popular and especially if you get married at the weekend it is not too early to book a photographer.

    HTH!

KBS - Ive already got colours in mind. So I'll need to see what other things fit with those colours etc.

Im thinking dark purple with either cream or silver. To lighten it up abit and the purple will go well for a winter wedding...I hope.

We're having purple and getting married in summer, I think its an all round colour to have but I'm only mixing mine with white... If you want cheap BM dresses I have flashed mine for you, you may have heard posts about the Birmingham Dress Lady... shes awesome lol.... and any excuse for a flash too! lol

    Photographers!! So expensive but...

My OH best mate is a wedding tog, so Im hoping he can ask him to do it for us as a pressie and we will buy the photo's from him at his proper rates! OH isnt keen though, he said it would be cheeky to ask when he's meant to be a guest.

KBS - I did see your recent flash and they are lovley. Im local to the Birmingham Dress Lady too.

Purple is my favourite colour, that and black and generally any dark colour! This does frustrate my mom, as she constantly picks up lighter colours in shops and everytime I say "ermm no" she pulls a face and says "why? its not purple?"?

Hi Feather, I'm also a December 2012 b2b - 22nd. So far we have organised venue, purely because i was keen to see venues dressed up for Christmas weddings before we decided on one. Also, have the band and humanist booked. We wanted a specific Humanist who had conducted my Dads funeral and she's very popular, and also the same with the band, a popular one here in Glasgow and it can be very difficult to get hold of them.

We're planning on sitting back and relaxing now for a good while. Tho, I am kinda getting addicted to this forum to look and add everyones ideas to my favourites ?

    Yay congratulations Feather!

I would book your venue and caterers asap, especially if it is a popular place.

Then book your Photographer as I am getting bookings for 2012 so don't worry about looking silly for asking too early.

There's no rules on what you should and shouldn't do and who cares if it's in 2012. Just say 'next year' and then it doesn't sound so far away ?
