What to do when...

loisinaballerina, 21 March, 2016 at 13:32 Posted on Planning 0 10

Hi all,

I'm looking for a bit of help. We get married in April next year and so far we've booked the church, reception venue, cars and photographer but I'm a bit stuck as to what to do next.

I've started making invites as a lot of people have said they are very time consuming but I can't do much more until we know our menu (guests will have a choice of three starters, three mains and three desserts) and we've already sent save the dates.

I don't need to worry about chair covers or centre pieces as our reception venue provide them, we just have to choose what we want from what they've got.

Does anyone have any suggestions what I can do now?

I've booked a day off work next month to start drest shopping so hopefully I'm on top of that but if anyone knows how far in advance I need to make appointments with shops, I'd be grateful.

Thanks in advance,

Lois

Hello fellow April Bride! Smiley smile

Book dress appointments as far in advance as you like. You could probably start booking now Smiley smile

It seems like you're pretty on top of everything Smiley smile we're getting to that stage too, but we've had to be a lot more hands on than you it seems!

You could start looking at a florist to do your bouquet? And start getting ideas for what the Bridesmaids and Ushers will wear?

It would also be worth making enquiries about the Cake, if you're having one Smiley smile Wedding cakes take a long time, so bakers like to get them in the Diary early Smiley smile

    Xxx

    As above Smiley smile

Also, you could look at Wedding Rings? Depending if you'll be having them specially made or not?

Entertainment of your venue doesn't include a DJ already?

WEDDING INSURANCE! In case the venue goes bust, or burns down, or your suppliers let u down...

I'm another April bride and I have done venue, registrar, and photographer - we wanted someone specific so wanted to book early. Other than that I have a couple of dress appointmenta booked - ive booked about a month in advance as i need saturday appointments. I am starting to think about flowers, cake and dj/entertainment but haven't done anything yet. I seem way less organised than some of the girls on here but we've got loads of time to get things done still (I hope - time does seem to be going quickly!)

I get married in May and we've also arranged the cake and the florist. I haven't sat down to have a final meeting about these things, but I've found the people I want to do these things and got rough quotes on price.

This week I've sorted out my hair and make up too as I know from a few friends who got married this year they can book up quickly.

Dress!!! Asap i would say..unless you are going to buy a sample or off the rail. My friend ordered her dress in june last year and still hasnt got it. Hers was brand new not off the rail so depends what you are buying but just be aware it could take a while to get it, then youll need fittings and adjustments which again will take a few months x

We're May next year and have booked the venue, DJ, florist, photographer, MUA and hairdresser, I've ordered my dress, also in process of booking photobooth, LOVE letters and bouncy castle and think I've found the bridesmaid dresses. We aren't having cars and I'm making the cake so that's sorted. l'm very aware of how fast this year is going already hence I'm trying to get as much done as possible now so I can hopefully just sit back and relax!

    Hi Lois,

Depending on how important the entertainment is to you it might be best to get that booked soon as the best entertainers will have bookings right through this year and will already have many bookings for 2017. The later you leave booking entertainment the smaller choice you might have. Possibly resulting in once you do start looking the bands, DJs etc that you really like not being unavailable.

The quality of the entertainment can have a major effect on how much fun many guests have at a lot of weddings.

You might want to get started looking for Hair and Makeup. I started looking for mine in December for a wedding at the end of September and everyone was already booked. It will probably be easier if you want to go to a salon, but it took me over a month to find someone who would come to our venue was still available. It was by far the most frustrating part of planning up to this point.

I would get on to hair and makeup as soon as you can, started looking for mine in July last year for my wedding in a couple of weeks and really struggled to find availability. There is so much price differential you want to give yourself as much choice as possible.

Flowers, cake, entertainment, bridesmaids dresses etc can all be booked at this point too, you are not too early.

    Good Luck

I'd agree with Anthony, now is probably a good time to book your DJ or band, in general bands are looking to fill their diaries 6 months to a year in advance. However, as a tip for couples getting married at the end of 2017 or even 2018 (we've already had a few enquiries!), my advice would be to hold off a while as bands do tend to quote a little higher if the date is too far into the future.
