what to do with now redundant engagement ring?

Excitedbridetobe2014, 22 September, 2013 at 23:24 Posted on Planning 0 8

I don't know how to make voting buttons, but please can I have opinions on what to do with my much loved but kind of redundant engagement ring. As I've struggled to find a wedding band that matches (i mo) my engagement ring, my partner and I decided to buy a perfectly matching, and second hand so great value bridal set. I won't start wearing the new engagement ring until the big day, and I'll never call it my engagement ring, just the matching ring! We have thought about simply placing original ring on my right hand, or my partner having it made into a necklace as a gift for the day. Does anyone have any other ideas? It's a 9 carat white gold, 3/4 carat princess cut diamond solitaire. Thanks for any advice/ideas anyone has!

Get him to but you another diamond and make them into diamond stud earrings. Timeless and practical.

That's quite a big stone... could you have it reset as a necklace to wear on the day? x

I was thinking of doing the same but I eventually found a ring that went well enough with my ER. I'd wear the ring on the right hand instead.

I'd go for ring on right hand too. I'm torn between asking an independent jeweller friend to make my wedding ring or going to a commercial jeweller. My friend doesn't work in 18 carat gold, which is my e-ring, so if I do go for her, I'll wear my e-ring on my right hand.

It depends how much you wear jewellery. Having another ring to wear - inc my engagement ring/wedding ring would be too much for me and I wouldn't want to wear it all the time so I think getting the diamond set in a necklace would be a great idea. You could pick a design you really like and then it's something you can wear on special occasions. Jewellers can do amazing things!

I work a lot with people who have rings re-made into other things; making a pair of earrings is an option, but it's harder than you think to find 2 that are a matching pair so could take a while to source

Pendants are always a good option; a really simple setting on a really fine chain is always a great classic piece - or have it redesigned and wear it on your other hand (or little finger)?

I had reall problems finding a wedding band to suit my e.ring. I eventually founf a company called Alba Rose who are excellent and I now have a custom made band in 18ct white gold, with three diamonds for £340, and its beautiful. You could always try that. If not my sister was in the same situation and she has kept the original ring to give to her daughter when she is older.
