I've been offered a job doing weekend admin work at my local hospital. Firstly they took 6 weeks to send me any information and I'm now a further 4 weeks down the line and I've still not started! I specifically applied for a weekend job as I have an 18 month old and it meant my husband could look after him while I was working . I've no family nearby so if I need someone to look after him during the day my husband either has to take holiday or one of my friends will have him for me.
I've already had to find childcare for a 2 day compulsary induction course and I had agreed to come in for 2 mornings this week for local induction for which again I had to find someone to look after my son. The idea being that I did this and then started this coming Saturday. It's in the A&E department so really busy and lots of things to pick up.
I went in yesterday for 9am (having trekked out to my friend's house in the opposite direction and then gone to the hospital and paid my £3 to park) to find the manager wasn't there and I was left sitting until nearly half 9 then she declared she'd forgotten I was coming. There is a specific local induction handbook that they're meant to go through but I was just put with a ward clerk and 'she would show me everything'. I came away 2.5 hours later having sat and watched her working and not really knowing anything. I wasn't shown where anything was, wasn't introduced to anyone and don't even know basic things like where the loo is ? I'm supposed to be going in tomorrow and from what was said yesterday it appears that I was in for more of the same.
I sent the manager an email this morning outlining my concerns that I'd had no training yet they seemed to be expecting me just to arrive on Saturday morning and go. I also asked her what plans she had in place for tomorrow and Saturday.
Her response was to ask me to send my CRB form to HR as soon as possible - I've never received one!
This isn't how it should work, should it? I'm beyond hacked off with the whole thing now and tempted just to tell them where to stick their job.
