What to start with....

hfraser87, 27 December, 2013 at 23:33 Posted on Planning 0 4

Hi everyone!

I've just got engaged after 10 years of waiting and I've no idea where to start first!! I need serious help! The only thing I've done so far is ask my 3 friends if they'll be my bridesmaids haha!

We're thinking of getting married in either Summer '15 or 16 & we live in Southampton so want it fairly local but won't mind travelling if it's worth it. Do you think it's to late to book for 2015?

We don't want to spend 10's of thousands of pounds but we want an amazing day!

Any help would b appreciated!

Thanks!

    Hi hfraser87!

    First things first. .... CONGRATULATIONS!

I'm like you.... been together a very long time, always thought I knew what I wanted and now I'm clueless...lol. I posted a similar thread and got some very helpful advice from some lovely people.

It seems to be venue, budget, numbers of guests take priority along with the date.

We will probably be summer 2015 too but need to discuss with h2b when he returns home.

    Xxx

    Hi and welcome!

I definitely think it isn't too late for 2015, start by working out what you can afford an how many guests you want & work from there.

I'd suggest looking at venues first & then booking things like your photographer next as these are the things that get booked more quickly (and IMO the most important).

Hello and welcome to hitched ?

I definitely don't think it is too late to book for 2015, we booked our wedding this summer for next June, so only about a year in advance, with no problems.

I think the best place to start is by working out a budget and roughly how many guests you want, from there you can start looking at venues and the nonce you have a date set, I'd consider getting a photographer booked ;-)

    Congratulations!

I don't think it's too late to book for 2015 wedding at all. Although it depends where you go I guess. We booked a June 2014 wedding in July of this year but all the Fri and Sat slots were already taken for 2014 so we went for a weekday wedding.

And no, you don't need to spend 10's of thousands to have an awesome day. Just do your homework and D.I.Y. is "in" in the wedding world so that helps! I'm doing my own invites, my gran and I are doing the flowers and we have a friend doing the cake which will hopefully be a little cheaper.

I used to live Southampton way, now in Bournemouth and getting married in Hinton, Christchurch.

By the way, personally I'd start with choosing a date and booking a venue.

Make sure you provisionally book the date at your chosen venue and then book the registrar BEFORE you put the deposit down on your venue.

Someone I know is getting married in early summer '14. She's put a deposit down on her venue/started planning and hasn't even called the registrar to see what times are available that day and it's making me sweat with panic - it's not even my wedding!
