What type of bouquet are you having?

Omgitshappening, 27 January, 2012 at 22:14 Posted on Planning 0 35

Would like to be able to keep my bouquet after the wedding and have been looking at silk bouquets (although have not seen any in real life yet)

So what type of bouquet are you having? (fresh or silk flowers or even a brooch bouquet)

And what reasons did you have to make this choice?

I'm having fresh flowers, as after the day i'm putting it on my grandparents grave, and giving one of my maids bouquet to my gran, and other maids going on OH's grandparents grave, thats one of the main reasons i've went fresh as if they lay there for ages would just end up really tatty.

I did look at silk bouquets, I found a website with some lovely ones, www.rainbowweddingflowers.co.uk

Planning to have silk. Due to being able to keep them after, but if I'm honest it's also because I'm a bit of a control freak and if I have silk I can have them a few weeks before the wedding and not have to worry about them turning up or what they look like on the day. Plus there are some lovely silk flower HIBs on here who've been so helpful and have some really realistic looking flowers.

I made myself a brooch bouquet for 2 main reasons. Firstly because I wanted something a bit different and retro in style, , secondly because I used to collect brooches when I was younger

I am edging towards the silk but would like to see some in real life first.

Also like the brooch bouquets, but arn't they heavy?

Lots of artificial cascading shower bouquets on my website if you need some inspiration. There are quite a few different variations of the shower/cascading bouquet and you can also add a brooch too:-

We are having silk. I refuse to pay £100s for real flowers that will die a week later, and could even turn up on the day brown around the edges.

Lots of Button/brooch & jewellery bouquets on my facebook page for inspiration. I can also incorporate sentimental buttons/jewellery in it too. For afterwards, I am working with a lady who can frame them for you if you wish or most of my brides put them in a vase for decoration around the home. Can also be handed down to loved ones Smiley smile

    Have a look

    www.facebook.com/iheartbuttonsuk

And I have also started to make paper flower/button bouquets too

I'm hoping to have silk (much to my mother's chagrin!). I suffer from horrible allergies and don't want to risk a flareup, am getting married in winter (when I imagine a lot of flowers will be considerably more expensive, whereas I doubt silk fluctuates seasonally), and hate it when cut flowers die! Similar to Nutella, I'd also be fretting about what showed up on the day if I hadn't seen it beforehand.

I'm not sure I want to keep everything afterwards (maybe some of it?), but that's an issue to consider much further down the track. (Maybe give them to a bridal charity shop, do some good? My worst allergy is my dust allergy, and my mum says that's why I shouldn't have silk)

I LOVE my flowers. My sister and Mum (AMAZING women) are making an ivory felt flower bouquet for me! I'm so in love with them. I chose them before the dress!! (which I still haven't quite chosen)

I'm having fresh flowers, and then paying just under £60 to preserve some of them within a paperweight forever.

That sounds interesting - Where are you getting that done??

I'm having real - I plan to take my bouquet to my OH's dads grave the day after the wedding, but I love the paperweight idea and wonder if I could use OH button hole flowers to do that...

Good quality silk flowers are so good at the moment and are not subject to seasonal changes(ie- price and availability!) and they are very light to carry.

I have had many brides send back their bouquet after the wedding and have it made into an arrangement for their home which you can keep for ages.

Most florists(me included lol) can work from pictures or ideas to produce a stunning artificial bouquet the is very hard to tell from the real thing!

If you would like any help with ideas etc please feel free to contact me x

Silk for me - though I much prefer real ones there isn't much available in Zanzibar in August. Getting them from an Australian company and love them

Thanks for all the replies ?

Have looked at some silk bouquets on the Internet and I must admit they look so realistic so I'm pretty sold on them.

The only reservation I have (and this is probably a problem with fresh flowers as well) is that h2b and I would like to remember our fathers through the choice of flowers in the bouquet. Unfortunately these two flowers are yellow roses and cream double headed carnations.

I don't think the rose's will be a problem, but I can not see any carnations as silk flowers - do they exist and would these two flowers look ok together in a bouquet?

I am having foam roses bouquet, button holes and carnations and i love the look of them and i asked them to send me a petal sample of the flower and they are really good. I agree with nutella i couldn't be doing with the stress of them on the day i would rather have them before and if any alteration or correction needs doing then they can all in time. Plus i refused to pay for the prices i was quoted for fresh flowers when i can pay a little less for something i can keep forever. Mine cascade down too as that is what i wanted. Have a look on silk blooms website they have some lovely ones!

When you say double headed carnations, are you meaning the spray carnations? I can get some spray carnations and also the standard single bloom carnation in artificial. This is the single one in this corsage:-

Carnations have been 'out of favour' for weddings for quite some time but they are making a massive come back and are now available in many colours and extremely realistic too.

I've got my heart set on a felt bouquet. It's going to cost about £80, but after I'll be able to have it in the house. I'm going to try and make cutton holes and then just have small bouquets for bridesmaids. Felt may not be everyone's cup of tea, but I love it! I'm trying not to get carried away and order it now, as we haven't got anything else yet hehe.

Oh wow Rainbow Florist they look amazing!

See I have absolutely no idea about flowers, double headed indeed? lol Those standard single carnations look gorgeous - really excited now!

I did try and email you the other day but for some reason it got returned to me, can't have put your e-mail address in right.

I will try and give you a ring during the week. Thanks again, you have been a great help ?

I had beautiful silk one thanks to Rainbow FLorist.

I wanted to keep mine too plus i thought the cost of real ones were crazy for something that would die after a few days!

Plus i wanted peonies in March and they are out of season then!!

so glad with my decision, my flowers on on display at home and i still have people who see them and are shocked as they hadnt realised my flowers were not real!!

Strangely enough, I've had a few people say that they have had problems emailing me from their phones this week so I have been onto my email provider as I never normally have email probs so this is a first for me! They say they are investigating so hopefully it should be solved soon whatever it may be so really sorry about that but by all means give us a call if you need any help.
