What vacuum should I get?

WickyWack, 4 September, 2014 at 15:30 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 16

We have two cats, so am thinking a pet hair one would be best..

My mum and dad have just got a new Dyson but at almost £500, I really can't afford that!!

Any recommendations? Ideally less than £200 but willing to spend up to £300.

We had a VAX pet one which was fine, but as soon as he could my H got a Dyson ball which he loves and it is dead light.

Another vote for vax! Ours was £169 down from £300 and its amazing.

I'd get it quickly too. Aren't the government banning certain powerful ones soon?

I'd go Dyson, I was always sceptical but we got ours in the sale at Tesco and it's brilliant. It's as good now as it was when we bought it 3 years ago. It's really light too so makes hovering the stairs easy.

Thanks Ddpunk for clearing that up

wickywack there's a sale on at argos right now, loads of the dysons are reduced and are within your budget

Tough question as l think it is very much a personal thing. I prefer Dyson's but my best friend as well as my cleaner swear by Henry's.

Vax gets my vote! We got this one as a wedding gift and it's really good. We were going to get the pet version but the day we were in to do our gift list, there was a Vax Rep in and he said this one is better on pet hair than the pet one (?!). MF vacuums most days, but when he tested this out when we got it home, it picked up a nearly a full cylinder of dirt and huge clump of dog hair. The carpet looked fine before he started - rank! For the money, it's well worth it.

ATB, our vax experience was exactly the same I was just too embarrassed to give the details, haha! I knew the old vacuum was rubbish but it was only when I saw the amount of dirt in the cylinder after our first vax-ing that I realised just how bad it was. And we don't have any pets,.. Just me and my long moulting hair!

This! We both have long moulting hair - the area we do our hair in at home is gross, I often have to get down on my hands and knees and use the sole of a trainer to get the hair off the carpet as our rubbish hoover won't touch it.

I've just switched from a dyson to a vax and wouldn't go back for anything. The dyson I had for the last 3 years was a pet one and never cleaned properly. It was the model just prior to the ball, a cylinder not an upright. Suction was awful on it and the pipe constantly clogged up.

I bought the Vax Air on the recommendation of my mum who is a cleaning perfectionist and she talks in raptures about it so I reckoned it must be good. It is. It gets all Ziggys fine white hair first time. Before I was having to go round with a scrubbing brush prior to vacuuming. It is heavy though so it depends what is important to you and how much carrying you need to do.

Opted for a VAX, can't remember the model but it was £99 down from £280, should arrive today!!

Is it wrong that I'm actually excited about going home and vacuuming the whole house to see how much it picks up?!?
