what was the most stupid thing you overlooked whilst planning?

happy_feet, 2 June, 2011 at 09:23 Posted on Planning 0 12

Most of you know I am planning our wedding in rather a short time, and I only just thought to check as a result of a post on here if i needed money on the day the pay for certificate, so just wondered if anyone else had overlooked something pretty obvious until someone said something, just so I can cross it off my list too! hehe

It's a really minor point, but I am getting ready at home then going back to our first night hotel so i've set a reminder to make sure my dress bag makes it to the hotel so I can get my dress back the morning after. And also nearly forgot.. Make sure I have shoes etc, as usually when I go overnight i'd only take clean clothes etc but post wedding will want non-wedding shoes.

    Hi Claire,

we didn't have to pay for our certificate on the day..? we paid this all in the final payment charge to the registrar beforehand

No I've checked with registrar and we don't, but I hadn't even thought about checking as some people said they did!

I packed an overnight bag for both of us, had everything he needed but I'd packed trainers for me to wear in the morning and no socks!! Had to go home with smelly sweaty feet ?

Oh... make sure you have cash on the day to tip anyone you feel deserves tipping. Hs workmates went on and on about how we should tip the registrar but he kept on muttering about the 'extortionate fee for less than an hour's work' so needless to say he ignored them even though she did do a fabulous job

    Several things!

    1) That my daughter would need a nap before the ceremony, otherwise she'd be majorly grumpy and probably scream through the whole thing. She didn't nap, was majorly grumpy and screamed through the whole thing 'til one of the bridesmaids took her outside!

    2) That I'd need some different shoes for the next day! Managed to remember a change of clothes and toiletries. Forgot shoes.

    3) Taking my dress bag to the hotel. I had to fold my dress up and shove it into my suitcase (which is apparently a TARDIS given that it fit my massive dress in!).

    4) That I knew the route from home to the venue. My phone (and therefore map) was in my bag with the BMs in the other car. Dad isn't local, neither is MoH. None of us knew the way and had to guesstimate from road signs! Not the most relaxing journey of my life!

    There's probably loads more!

    This is indeed a good thread...only ones for me so far are;

    - Check all paperwork from registrar, venue, entertainment, honeymoon, photographer etc to see when deposits and final balances have to be paid and mark it in the diary...I thankfully haven't overlooked this one but it is soooo important to do as early as possible!

    - If you are doing your own invites then count the number of invites NOT the number of people you will need before making them all...I knew we had 80 people to invite but for some reason, my brain did not kick in that I wouldn't need 80 invites (as obviously a lot of the invitees are couples) until I had merrily printed, cut out and stuck 30 more than I needed to!

Re the invites: that's an easy one to do! My brain was going down the same route, until I read something in a magazine about it being the number of couples rather than individuals! I was like, 'doh! how did I miss that?' Smiley smile

I'm getting ready at my venue in the morning of my wedding, travelling from home to get there. I am worried about forgetting shoes, accessories, tiaras! Will make a list well before the morning to ensure everything is ticked off.

Whether I have forgotten anything else will remain to be seen on the day. Can't shake the feeling that there might be something that has really been over-looked...

Ooh, the other thing we over-looked: we kept leaving ourselves out of our catering numbers! It's only recently that we remembered to add ourselves to our list of guests when giving the final numbers to the caterer!

    I did this- I got a quote for 1200 invites, when I only needed 70 ?
