A dress up photo booth - the bride is known for her obsession with all thinks pink so all the props were pink.

Guests went mad for it! Each guest got a pic and another went into a guestbook with personal message.

We're having something simular but with serious pics.

I like a good disco or a band you can dance to. I'm not one for Elvis Impersonators (actually, I'm going to add that to my list of dislikes!).

I like a string or jazz group during drinks.

Celidhs are always good fun but I do tend to associate them with a party more than a wedding.

I much prefer a really good band to a disco. Can be expensive but so worth it in my opinion. But amazes me people that book either dj or band without hearing them first - disaster waiting to happen!

The problem with many DJ's and Bands IS that you can't hear them first.

Some bands and DJ's play the pub circuit, but many focus on Weddings where they can't invite future clients to their functions. I've been asked this before- and there is no real answer.
Face-to-face meetings (if possible), or at least a nice chat should help work out if the entertainment is suitable.

I occasioanlly play my local pub, because it allows me to have a bit of fun and play music I would not normally play.

Any clients coming to see me, won't get "Wedding DJ", but a different performance.

I still dress smart, and work hard, but there is a world of difference from a mainly mid-40's male crowd in a pub to a family wedding.

For the weddings I've attended, either a good band and DJ - when it works well, its a fantastic night...or a close-up magician is good family fun.

If I had the budget for our wedding, I think we'd go for the band+dj. We both love live music, and this would give the best of both worlds.

We would use a separate DJ, and not a band member to play a CD between sets thou!

We chose to have a jukebox instead of a DJ or band. We're older than the average wedding couple and therefore so are our friends, and relatives even older than most! We were frightened people wouldn't dance and there's nothing worse or cringy than an empty dance floor with a DJ or band flogging a dead horse. It went down a treat, the dance floor was hardly empty all night as everyone could choose their favourite tracks. We also had a casino which was so popular we had to extend their hire time! It got everyone mingling, laughing and really broke the ice!

Love the casino idea. I went to a wedding with a magician who did the rounds and was pretty cool. They also had a characaterist (sp?) really popular, funny pictures.

For entertainment we are having a local band and doing a pub quiz style competition after dinner, before the speaches!

    I totally echo

I totally echo your reaons and we aren't having a typical cheesy wedding disco for the same reasons, plus H2B and I are not into commercial/chart music at all, neither are any of our friends. We have been to too many weddings now where the Dj is playing to no one half the night and it can totally kill an atmosphere!

A friend of ours is setting up some CDJ's so we will have some music but it will be more background, our venue is very intimate so I am hoping we will all be chatting, catching up and celebrating that way. We also have a friend who is a magician so he will be there in the evening.
