lollytrollydolly, 29 August, 2011 at 15:21 Posted on Planning 0 40

Hiya all!

Am getting married June 2012 and i have started to go to the gym, but i am always tempted by lush healthy food! I have been trying to start dieting now but i dunno what to do because i always fall back into old habits!

I have tried Silm fast but i got so bored! I got results but put the wieght straight back on when i started to eat normally!!

Any ideas and advice would be lovely!!

Hope everyone is well and enjoying the back hoilday!!

I'm conscious that I have so long to go that it's easy to put it off.

I've tried to give myself a bit of a push by putting that Lily Slim footer on my posts - at least when I'm giving in to my addition on Hitched I can be reminded regularly! I just set it up this morning.

    Good luck with your plans

I attended slimming world its more about long term change than short fix and it helps to maintain at the end so u dont put it all back on, getting fed up of eating so much though and with 10 months to go i am also scared i will think i have time then slip into old habbits and gain instead of lose, i find when im on a diet i am constantly thinking about food.

Yes Michelle I know what you mean, from dieting in the past.

It focuses you on what you're missing, then when you acheive something clicks in your brain to say "I can eat what I want now", without any logical thought to what bodyshape that attitude led to in teh first place. The logic's easy, it's definitely keeping it going that's the problem.

I want to lose a dress size so I'm planning to lose a stone - that should sort it. It won't do any harm to all my work clothes that are a bit tight either.
i might get a bit of kick start whether I want it or not - I'm staying with my friend who's moved away on Wednesday for 3 days and ehe's a right healthy girl and gym bunny.

Maybe I'll arrnage to go and stay regularly if it works! ?

To be entirely honest, I've given a few things a go but not been able to sustain them due to the restrictions on what I can eat.

So I changed my approach and took up running, gradually increasing the amount of exercise I'm doing and I've carried on eating what I would normally eat, only in smaller quantities. I use My Fitness Pal to track my food to ensure my portion sizes are healthy and keep an eye on how much exercise I've done.

I know it's boring but the eat a bit less, exercise a bit more thing has worked for me. I'm 0.2 ounces off having lost 2 stone in 18 months Smiley smile

Wow Viki that's brilliant, well done you.

Yes, the logical eat less and do more. Sadly even teh week I tried on wedding dresses I found it hard to find teh motivation to go for a jog. I need to get a definite routine in place I think. Is that what you've done?

I lost 2 stone in 10 months through SW. It works, and for a diet its relatively simple to follow - very little weighing & measuring, plus you are allowed treats as well.

Ive rejoined now ive been back from honeymoon a month - had 4.5lb on. Lost 2.5lb last week and need another 10lb to take me to me new target.

I also do 3 / 4 gym classes as week.

    Good luck!

    Thanks!

You're right, motivation is the hardest thing when you try to lose weight without a plan and at first when I wasn't used to it, I'd let myself off with any excuse, my favourite was avoiding running when it was lightly raining or 'looked like it might rain'!! Now I'll run whenever. I never thought I'd be the sort of person that could enjoy exercise and I still struggle through some runs but I go three times a week rain or shine and do feel better for it. So it does come, you just have to persevere.

Now I just need to work on my cake addiction!!

I did Weight Watchers years ago and lost 2 and a half stone. Stupidly I didn't keep up with what it taught me and put nearly 4 stone on again. I've lost nearly 2 of that 4 stone and want to shift the rest by the wedding. I'm using the WW principles and me and my OH have a weigh-in at home and record it on a little chart (he's lost just over 3 stone!). As someone else said, it is about making long term changes. We eat really healthily now but when we want a treat, we have it, we just make sure we don't have it too often. So, if we're going out for dinner or we've got friends round, we'll eat what we fancy but make sure we eat healthily for the rest of the week, maybe go for a bike ride or something. There's no point denying yourself completely otherwise you just get cravings and end up eating everything in sight, but a little of what you fancy with mostly healthy stuff seems to be working for me.

Every time I have ever done a "diet" whether is was slimming world or slimfast, I have always, always put the weight back on. The trouble with being on a diet isn't motivation to stick to it, it's what you do when you're at target and no long "on" a diet. This year I have done something very similar to Blonde Viki; I have joined a gym with OH and we both motivate each other to go. I have cut down a bit on my portion sizes and cut down on unhealthy snacks etc. I have lost 10lbs since January, i know it's not fast but I also know that I can eat like this for the rest of my life and never feel denied. I am a real foodie and a pastry chef and I really believe that a little of what you fancy does you good - as long as it really is a little!

My weakness is bread (well all carbs but maily bread) so if I can kick my bread addiction and increase my fruit intake (I adore veg, hate fruit) it'll hopefully be plain sailing from now until my wedding (18 months to lose 2 stone).

    Good luck everyone x

Hiya a couple of us started online WW recently, some other hitchers have posted their progress which sounds amazing (link below) and I have lost in just a few weeks with hardly any alterations to my dier and lots of treats still, so you could try that.

    https://www.hitched.co.uk/chat/forums/t/249145.aspx

When I ordered my dress I confidently said to the woman 'oh no I doubt I will lose any weight so don't order a smaller size.' she was totally shocked and said no matter how thin brides are, everyone says they want to lose more. I assured her I didn't give 2 hoots about my weight and OH didn't either.

Then as I crept nearer to the year mark I started thinking about it... realising that this was my big special day... did I want to be worried about flabby bits? NO! So WW was my first port of call.

Another slimming worlder here - lost 19lb since the last 2 months.

My consultant worked out a wedding plan for me and if I lose 2lb a week till the wedding I would have lost 7 stone in total!

I lost 2 and a half stone and went from a size 16 to a size 12 in a matter of about 5 months with Weight Watchers alone... no exercise, just following the plan! I've now got another half a stone to lose and have found this the hardest to shift so have increased my exercise levels to the point I now go to either a workout class or do 30 lengths of the pool at least 3 times a week... thankfully the last half a stone is now starting to shift!

I joined Slimming World in March last year (18 months ago) and have lost 4.5 stone. I have been maintaining since April now. I was a size 24 and now a size 14 which I am totally happy with. It was a lifestyle change for me and my family (4 year old son and H2B) and so we eat good healthy balanced meals now and still have some lovely treats.

Its not a diet it really does help you curb the bad habits, gets you back to cooking fresh and tasty food. I really don't feel I will slip back into old habits as I am really enjoying it.

Highly recommend it. If you look on their website they have a trial 7 day plan, which I did for 2 weeks before "officially" joining a group and lost 1/2 stone on my own.

I've Slim Fast before and it made me feel yuk, SW is definitely the best thing I have ever done :-)

I do believe that it has to be something that you really want to do and you have to have your head in gear to succeed. My downfall was always thinking of it as a diet and then I would just fail at the first go! This is eating what you like, but the so called "naughty" things in moderation and lots of the fresh, healthy scrummy food.

    Good luck :-)

I've been going to boot camp for 3 and half weeks now and lost 8lbs!

I've been eating better without going on a diet and feel really motivated to just go out for 4 mile walks in between boot camps. If I can keep it up I'll be well rid of my excess 3 stone by my wedding :o)

I've done WW and SW and atkins in the past - always lost then regained weight. Then I decided to do my own thing and lost 5 stone and have kept the majority off (just gained 8lb after a couple of big holidays) so I need to lose that before the wedding. All I did was cut out unhealthy snacks - If I'm hungry I'll have some soup. I cut right back on carbs and fat. Did no exercise and still drank and the weight fell off!!

I'm currently on Slimming World and have lost 1 stone 2 pounds in 8 weeks. It's easy to do because there is very little weighting and measuring and there is a lot of food you can eat as much as you like of. The "syns" don't stretch very far though.

I've also been on Weight Watchers in the past and found that worked too. I found that there is probably a wider range of food you can eat but every thing has to be weighed and the points worked out.

For me it is more about the support group. I've found that whatever diet I do, it works if I stick to it.

My mum has lost 3 and a half stone in a few months; she joined a local bootcamp and goes 3 times a week at 7am for an hour. The days she doesn't go to that she either goes swimming, plays tennis with a friend or goes to the gym so she does something every day. She's also cut down severely on carbs, alcohol and naughty foods. I don't think there is any quick fix, it needs to be a lifestyle change or it'll just came back on.

Last year when I needed to lose weight I joined the gym and did a class every day (mostly spinning which is killer); when an instructor is shouting at you, there's no choice but to exercise HARD!

That is an amazing achievement in a relatively short space of time - well done you! My current size is around 22 and my ideal goal would be a 14.

I may take your advice and try out the meal plans for myself before joining a slimming world class.

I want to loose another 1 stone before i get my wedding dress at the end of the year.

All my friends do the local boot camp but with a 15 month old I find getting out to anything like this near on impossible as well as the gym! So I got myself a cross trainer and a kinect and have been doing it mostly everyday, I've also changed my diet & portion sizes but not by a lot and found that I have lost a stone in about 2 months. I do find my motivation goes a lot though, I think if I could get out to do these activities it would be more fun and I wouldn't just spot the sofa and dash for it!!
