What would be on your wishlist for an afternoon tea reception?

PennyFarthing, 7 August, 2009 at 13:10 Posted on Planning 0 12

I need to compile a list of food that I would like for our "tea" to a friend who is going to try and get some quotes for me as I am a bit miffed with the quotes I have received so far.

Now I could just write sandwiches and cakes, but I think she needs a bit more detail and it needs to sound a bit more special than that (!)

sooo...... what would you, the wise ladies of hitched, like at an afternoon tea?

Thank you very much - Penny

ETA: The caterers I've spoken to so far have only given me a quote, rather than a menu and quote and seem reluctant to go into details....

Mmmmmm - foooooood! Yum! One of my favourite topics!

For me, I would want sandwiches e.g:

    - cucumber and salt and pepper

    - crab or poached salmon

    - brie and pear

    - cheddar and caramelised red onion marmalade

    - strawberry jam!

Cake wise, I think it has to be scones with clotted cream and jam plus victoria sponge and rock cakes

Id also like to be able to choose my tea from a selection of types, but still have it from a tea pot, but I am pretty high maintenance!

Alternatively, if it was me, id use this as excuse to do 'research' and go somewhere posh for sunday afternoon tea - the Ritz or something! Then copy what they do!

Ooh - if you decide to go down the 'research' route, I strongly recommend The Landmark in London (opposite Marylebone Train Station).

They do really interesting savories (like mini quiches with a twist and wraps sliced up really thinly so they look fabulous) and lots of mini desserts alongside the tea cakes and scones (like shot glasses with mousses and teeny gateaux).

Well worth a visit for ideas

    Thank you girls, and boy!

Now there's a thought! In the name of "research" obviously!

    Scones, cream and strawberry jam

Angel cake - slices of a full size one as opposed to a piddly individual, pre cut slices a la Mr Kipling

For a retro humour and a touch of pastel, you can't beat a bit of battenburg!!!!

    Yum.
