What would you do - BM related!

louisiannaday, 17 May, 2010 at 18:52 Posted on Planning 0 4

Hi all,

Me and my Bm's went to look at BM dresses on saturday and have finally chosen! WooHoo!

Only thing is, I'm worried about the sizes ordered.

One BM had to order a size that was slightly too big in some places but fit her in others and I took the advice of the lady in the shop that the bits that were too big could be taken in.

Thing is, my BM is currently loosing weight so thinks that by the time they come in, she will be a size smaller anyways which means the dress will be too big all over and not just in parts!

Now i'm thinking maybe I should order the size down as 1) it'll cost more to have taken in, and 2) will it look funny when altered?

I would really appreciate your advice!

Hiya! Don't worry - it's much safer to order a size bigger as it's easier to take a dress in that to take it out. What if she doesn't lose any weight? It's a massive risk! Most seamstresses are fantastic and can work wonders, so don't worry about how it will look. Also, most dressmakers/seamstresses have a set alterations package, which doesn't really fluctuate depending on how many alterations they have to make - so don't worry about the cost saving. I really think you should stick with what you've ordered. The lady in the shop is an expert, so I'd put your faith in her! HTH.

Order the size they are now. No exceptions. We've heard the 'bridesmaid said she'll lose weight and now it's too late and her dress doesn't fit' too often!

Definately better too big than too small. have you already ordered the dresses? if not then why not wait until nearer the date?
