What would you do if anything?

WhiteRose84, 6 April, 2011 at 12:51 Posted on Planning 0 17

My OH's step mum has shown me a pic of her dress she's bought to wear for our wedding. It's a lovely dress and does look fab on her, she's got a great figure for 40... but the more I've thought about it, i'm not too sure. Even OH's nana said at the weekend to her, 'youre gonna look like the bride...'

Here it is -

She was trying to hint to me, 'I don't want to clash with yours etc' but she doesn't know the colour or style of my dress and I want to keep it that way as we only have 17 guests.... Don't want everyone to know about my dress lol!! xx

Will she be wearing a jacket with it? I think with brightly coloured accessories it will look fine and probably wouldn't bother me too much but if it will bug you then you need to say something.

My friends step mum did similar but wore white on purpose and phoned said friend to enquire to the colour of the bridemaids so she could get a matching stole. ?

I don't think people will think she looks like the bride, but I still think wearing a white dress to a wedding is a no!

I agree with the others I wouldnt have though someone wearing that was the bride, unless it is v similar, why don't you gratuitously flash your dress then we can put your mind at rest once and for all!

She won't clash with you at all!

That said, I'm not a fan generally of others wearing white to a wedding. If people do it at mine, it won't bother me but it's something I wouldn't do to someone else.

There will be no mistaking the bride in your fab fab number!

I think her dress is perfect for an abroad wedding, so can see why she picked it - so wearable. I'd leave her to get on with it.

I think its suitable. Nothing will clash with your dress because you are the bride and will look amazing... simples! My theme is whites/ivory's and I have asked my mom to fit the colour scheme, bridemaids are even in cream and Im not worried in the slightest.

To be fair, I did say to her that she looked fab in it and shows off her figure, but it was after OH's nana made the comment that I started thinking more of it. Cheers lovely hitchers!xx BTW, it was never my intention to go for a big white princess dress, totally not my style, but I fell in love with it - and if you can't get married in a big dress, when can you..?! xx

Sorry I typed that a little flipantly - but that's what I mean, not worth mentioning again sort of thing.

? a lot of women say they never wanted a big dress but end up in one - I have too. But, hey, as you say, it's going to be my only chance.

Hey I wouldn't worry too much as she won't be mistaken for the bride. However, I cannot believe she has bought a dress that colour!!! Surely everyone knows that it's a massive no no?!!! I have never understood why people do that. If it was in a different colour it would be lovely!

I disagree, I've attended lots of weddings where guests have worn cream/white - nothing ever clashes with a brides dress lets be honest.

I want me & oh to be the only ones in ivory (his suit will be charcoal grey with ivory shirt, waistcoat & cravat - other mens waistcoats will be silver, silver cravat etc). Its just this thing I have! Although if someone turns up in white / ivory / cream I wont be peeved as no one will be in a dress like a wedding dress (if anyone does I'll have them swiftly removed lol)
