What would you like for your 40?

Kegsey, 4 April, 2008 at 12:16 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 16

Its my 40th birthday this summer. I#%92ll take the family (parents, brother, etc) out for a meal but not sure what I#%92ll do to celebrate with H and friends. I also don#%92t know what I#%92d like for a present. H has already said that he#%92d like ideas. I like things to keep for big birthdays but I don#%92t have any ideas.

So, what would you do/like for your 40th birthday (replace with 30th if you aren#%92t there yet!)?

Surgery. And a post-surgery holiday somewhere hot where I don't have to do anything

    I'm 30 in 2 years and 7 days ? and I'm really not sure!

Mr M is 30 ten months before me and we're thinking of going to NYC next November which is in between both our birthdays, I really like that idea.

My 40th kind of back fired on me! I asked for no fuss and got precisely nothing.

I'm 30 in the summer. My two friends (who are also turning 30 this year) and I are going to Italy for a girlie holiday and H and I are going to NYC, although not until New Year(we went to NYC for my 21st then his 30th too). I also have my eye on some rather nice diamond and pearl jewellery for a gift, but I'll probably get that now rather than wait. I'll have a small meal with my family to celebrate at the time. No party or anything.

Hmm, it appears I'm having a year long birthday celebration this year. I hadn't realised that ?

It was my 30th last month. I had a big party and present wise the main things were diamond earrings and a heeeeeeeoge shopping trip with personal shoppers and everything.

Some great ideas you've had/done. Not sure about travel - we're thinking of goign to New Zealand this autumn but that depends on money as I'm going to be made redundant. I have seen a necklace that I love but its over H's budget (by 2-3 times [:I]) Diamond earrings are a possibility though and I'd love that. Not so sure about surgery either - I've done that twice in the last couple of years (one by choice and the other not really) and I don't want to go there again for a long time.

    Thankyou ?

I'm 40 next year and I'm going to have a laptop. The plan is for family to contribute and then my H will pay the rest.

Mine is next May, and I am not one for birthday parties etc. Any of the following from H would be well received:

-For him to pay for my upper blephs to be done (no chance-he doesn't believe in cosmetic surgery!)

-A pair of gorgeous diamond earrings

-A weekend of utter pampering in a spa

-A tour of S.America-we were to have done this for honeymoon, but had to scale down.

-A city break somewhere we/I haven't been before. Fab hotel, Jacuzzi and some reservation made for a fab restaurant a deux for the night of my birthday.

For OH's 30th we went to Gordon Ramsey in NYC and I got him some golf lessons at the Belfry (dull, but he liked them).

Mine is on Christmas day in a couple of years and I want to go to Lapland for it, very grown up ?

Ah, thankyou, I've never heard the term before ?

I'm liking the idea of diamond earrings.

I was thinking of a party for friends but the closest weekend is some close friends 5th wedding anniversary and the weekend after is a bank holiday weekend. Not many friends live close and we can't put them all up. My closest local friend (who was my bridesmaid) is currently pregnant so will have a 2 month old so I don't think she'll be up for being out long, if at all. Maybe just stick at meal with family and something just for H and me.

Thanks for your ideas and sharing your plans ?

For my Dad's 50th we had lunch at Claridges, which has kind of set a precedent of 'good restaurants as presents'.

It was part of a family weekend in London, which, as a provincial type, I always enjoy.
